2. Re: How to add points on curve to make a straight line automatically
c.pfaffenbichler Jun 27, 2012 6:50 AM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)I can produce different results in CS5 and CS6, too.
The method to interpolate curve points might have been changed, I quess – I doubt the old way would be easily attainable then.
What do you need those equidistanced points for anyway?

4. Re: How to add points on curve to make a straight line automatically
Matthew A Kraus Jun 27, 2012 7:32 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)I want to change a specific tone in an image without modifying the entire curve. If I drag a point up or down in a curve, the curve above and below it moves. With multiple points on the curve, moving one point only effects that one point.
Thanks,
Matthew Kraus

5. Re: How to add points on curve to make a straight line automatically
c.pfaffenbichler Jun 27, 2012 8:21 AM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)I assume the old interpretation will not be easily achieved.
But if the task is a frequent one for you I would recommend using either a Script or an Action to automate creating a Curves Layer with the appropriate number of points on the diagonal axis.

conroy Jun 27, 2012 10:11 AM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)Save a preset of the nine points in a line.

7. Re: How to add points on curve to make a straight line automatically
Chris Cox Jun 27, 2012 11:07 AM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)So you created a straight light curve, then converted it to a spline curve.
Yes, bug fixes to the spline fitting would reduce the number of points generated. No, there is no way to get that back.
And I'm really not sure what you were trying to do in the first place...

8. Re: How to add points on curve to make a straight line automatically
Noel Carboni Jun 27, 2012 12:40 PM (in response to Chris Cox)I can see how someone could get used to dropping those 9 points then being able to affect only certain elements of the image (e.g., very dark parts, midtones, medium highlights). Can't say that ever occurred to me, though... I just build up curves as needed on the general principle that simpler curve operations seem to make more natural-looking results.
Conroy2009 has it right I think. Matthew, you'll need to learn to select the preset, but you will get a more accurate starting point than you do when you drag the pencil.
