Existing video files won't import into Lightroom 4.1

    ntreuter Community Member

I have several hundred videos I have taken, either with a Canon SD800, Canon S95, Canon T2i or a GoPro.

New videos I take on this equipment works just fine when adding to Lightroom. But when I try to import older files, I get error: video file not imported with the quantity in parenthesis.

I have tried purging the video cache, I have tried task manager - disabling dynamiclinkmanager and dynamiclinkmediaserver. Occasionally I will be able to import one or two videos after doing this but then it hangs up again.

      Running Win7, LR4.1.

I don't have anything else up and running when I do this.

Any ideas? This is really frustrating me as I want my catalog to be complete.

Not sure if this is part of the issue but the files are on a NAS device.

same here for since 4.0.  If you read the adobe Knowledge base they say generally anything that can load in quicktime can load in lightroom (maybe uses sames codecs?).  In either case quicktime can run ALL the videos - lightroom as trouble with a great deal of them.  Of 1400 videos I have a number .mov, .mpg that work fine in quicktime but wont load in lightroom (no preview etc) - probably about 20%

I am having almost exactly the same problem with Lightroom 4 and now, with Lightroom 5.

I was able to import  RAW formats from the folders already on my external RAID harddrive. However, I was unable to import video from the same folders.  I can sometimes get a few video files to import, but then the import process runs for a very long time, and I get an popup error message "There was a problem importing the video".

It is impossible to "syncronize folder" because the same thing happens and the import process ends with the popup error message "There was a problem importing the video".  Sometimes I am also unable to upload photos because the import process crashes because of video files.

An online search reveals that a number of peopel have similar problems but that no clear solution exists. This simply should not be happening in program like Lightroom that has a huge crew of developers to support it.

              My system:

              Lenovo W520

              2.20 gigahertz Intel Core i7-2720QM

              16 gigs RAM

              64 kilobyte primary memory cache

              256 kilobyte secondary memory cache

              6144 kilobyte tertiary memory cache

              64-bit ready

              Multi-core (4 total)

              Hyper-threaded (8 total)

Intel(R) HD Graphics Family [Display adapter]

              NVIDIA Quadro 1000M [Display adapter]

Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem are greatly appreciated!
