Bill@VT Jun 25, 2012 6:06 PM (in response to NoLongerStuckInVirginia)Update your installation. WIn7 and 64-bit are a combination that require the updates. Also, you may have to select to run Acrobat in a 32-bit compatibility mode.

NoLongerStuckInVirginia Jun 25, 2012 8:06 PM (in response to Bill@VT)But it worked perfectly before with Win 7 64-bit. And no I didn't have to use 32-bit compatibility mode before either. Further, I already tried "updating the installation" and that didn't do anything.
I had to completely uninstall Acrobat Pro X, then re-install it from my original CS6 installation setup (i.e., not an update) -- and it works fine again. I still, however, do not know what actually happened.

Bill@VT Jun 26, 2012 5:30 AM (in response to NoLongerStuckInVirginia)Sorry that I can't give you further ideas. Sometimes, Windows updates seem to mess things up and there is an outside chance that is what happened. Why, it is hard to tell. If it happened to a lot of folks you would have heard, but apparently it did not. It might be worth setting a restore point in Windows and then doing the updates. If something messes up, you only have to do the restore.

kymh Jul 2, 2012 6:17 AM (in response to NoLongerStuckInVirginia)Exactly the same thing has just happened to me.
In an attempt to fix it, I did a System Restore to a point made well before the problem occurred but Acrobat closed shortly after the first opening of a PDF and hasn't loaded again since.
I'm currently uninstalling and reinstalling but even if that's a solution (not yet known), then I think we should keep looking for an answer.

cwcsdc Jul 3, 2012 3:13 AM (in response to kymh)I’m having the same problem. Acrobat X won’t start. We tried clicking on a PDF, clicking both on the desktop shortcut and directly on Acrobat.exe, and starting it from a command prompt. We re-installed the program, and it started, so I thought everything was OK.
Then I checked for updates, and installed the latest update. After restarting Windows 7, Acrobat again will not start.

cwcsdc Jul 3, 2012 8:30 AM (in response to cwcsdc)Problem solved ! ! Version 10.1.3 was the culprit. Adobe Support had me uninstall the program and re-install the original version and to wait for version 10.1.4 or later before upgrading. Everything appears to be OK now.

Dan_Clements Jul 15, 2012 3:52 PM (in response to NoLongerStuckInVirginia)Well same thing just happened to me. Working fine until latest Windows up-date (July 12). Will try the ininstall/reinstall.

Dan_Clements Jul 15, 2012 4:14 PM (in response to NoLongerStuckInVirginia)Well, the uninstall was uneventful. Now the reinstall:
Anyone know how to just reinstall Acrobat Pro X fromCreative Suite 6? I don't see that option available, and a reinstall execution starts for the entire suite, which I do not want to do.
Thanks!

9. Re: Acrobat Pro X no longer starts -- even after trying re-installing
Dan_Clements Jul 17, 2012 3:10 PM (in response to NoLongerStuckInVirginia)After spending a delightful two hours with Adobe support, to reinstall from a Creative Suite DVD, go to the Payload subdirectory> Acrobat> subdirectories, and click on the msi executable.
The only problem was that my serial number was not recognized. But after loading the latest up-date and restarting, everything seems to be working fine.

10. Re: Acrobat Pro X no longer starts -- even after trying re-installing
NoLongerStuckInVirginia Jul 26, 2012 7:21 AM (in response to NoLongerStuckInVirginia)Well, mine just started doing it again. Going to uninstall and the re-install from the CS6 instal disks and see what happens. Last time I did this I also has a serial number issue, but it seems to accept the serial number without incident and without having to deactivate anything. Hopefully that's the case this time as well. Further if Version 10.1.3 was the culprit, have they come up with a subsequent version that does not produce this problem?

11. Re: Acrobat Pro X no longer starts -- even after trying re-installing
Dan_Clements Jul 26, 2012 7:37 AM (in response to NoLongerStuckInVirginia)Yes, there is an up-dated version. What seemed to work for me was up-dating Acrobat Pro X prior to opening any PDF's. This is a bit of a pain because it is a full product download and takes a while, but it seems to have resolved the issue.
Hope this helps and that you can avoid dealing with Adobe's lame technical support.

12. Re: Acrobat Pro X no longer starts -- even after trying re-installing
cwcsdc Sep 13, 2012 2:26 AM (in response to cwcsdc)I spoke too soon — the problem isn’t solved yet. It appeared again in version 10.1.4. This version worked for a while after I installed it. Then one day, I tried to open a document, and I got a message, “Can’t connect with xxx [I don’t remember the exact name] server.” After that, the program would not start at all, even after restarting Windows.
So once again, I had to uninstall 10.1.4 and re-install 10.1.1 from the CS6 download. But I can’t just stay with 10.1.1 from now on — there’ll come a time when I have to move on to a later version. Hopefully, the problem can be fixed by then.

13. Re: Acrobat Pro X no longer starts -- even after trying re-installing
skrantzman Sep 13, 2012 1:09 PM (in response to NoLongerStuckInVirginia)Here is what I believe to be the problem. It is not that Acrobat is broken, it is that you cannot get it out of trial mode. Even though you have a valid license for a suite of apps such as CS6 Design and Web Premium, and have activated the suite, after 30 days Acrobat stops launching because the 30 day trial has expired. You do not have to reinstall Acrobat if this happens. If you go into another app such as Photoshop and "Deactivate" the program, once you re-launch and re-activate Photoshop, Acrobat will start working again. Unfortunately this still is not removing Acrobat from Trial mode and 30 days later it will stop launching again. You then have to repeat the deactivate - reactive process of Photoshop to fix the problem yet again for another 30 days fo use. Very frustrating.
