John T Smith Jul 6, 2012 9:26 AM (in response to David Zeno)No personal experience... I built my CS5 computer a bit over 2 years ago, based on Asus P6T SE LGA 1366 X58 motherboard and i7 930 CPU... I just save links to answer questions like yours

6. Re: Intel 2011 - 3930k - Great choice for premiere ?
Alan Craven Jul 6, 2012 9:43 AM (in response to David Zeno)I built a system using the 3930K CPU on a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5 motherboard earlier this year, originally with a 460GTX graphics card, but more recently with a GTX680 card - which brought about a significant improvement in performance (as you would expect).
Provided you use the latest BIOS (definitely one released after the start of April), and are careful with your memory choice, this is an excellent system.
Do a search on this forum about memory compatibility with the 3930K CPU - but do not despair, things are nowhere near as bad as painted by certain people. It seems that there can be problems with Micron sourced memory - particularly G-skill Ripjaws. I have 32 GB of Corsair XMS3 PC3-12800 and have had no problems, once I got past the early BIOS versions.
Starting with a blank slate, having read about the problems, I would probably go for 1.35V memory rather than the 1.5V now. Samsung seems to be the memory of choice, but it is not on the QVA list for Gigabyte motherboards.

UlfLaursen Jul 6, 2012 10:10 AM (in response to Alan Craven)I have this CPU too on an Asus P79 Pro board, and it is ok so far. Not much CS6 experience yet, but I beleive this processor is great bang for the buck.
I guess that Harm and others can go into into more details regarding this. I have it with the GTX570, and I think it is great too.
