1. Re: Naming Presets for Virtual Copies and PS Edits
Ian Lyons Jul 13, 2012 4:10 PM (in response to soloalpinist)Best to set the Rename Template from within the 'External Editing' panel of Lr Preferences. The format should be along the lines shown in screenshot. You add the custom text after the template has been saved.
Above should work OK for photos edited in Photoshop, but Virtual Copies are a different beast and can't be renamed using templates. If you do try it the master is renamed, not the copy. The thing is, VCs must have the same base name as the master. However, you can manually edit the Copy Name field in Library Metadata panel.

2. Re: Naming Presets for Virtual Copies and PS Edits
soloalpinist Jul 13, 2012 4:29 PM (in response to Ian Lyons)Sorry... I'm not sure I was clear. I'm using KOBRIEN_YY_00001.dng as my filenaming systemfor originals in the LR Catalog... but want to have LR automatically add letters and sequencial numbers to edits done in Photoshop or other External Editors. For instance:
KOBRIEN_12_00001.ME_01.dng This would be the original file name followed by ME_01.dng (with "ME" standing for Master edit and 01 the number of copies of Edits of that original image... with addition copies as 02, 03 etc)
I can't figure out how to plug the ME_01 in this example into the File Template Editor. Suggestions?

soloalpinist Jul 13, 2012 5:32 PM (in response to Ian Lyons)It didn't work. Tried the settings above... for some reason the Sequence # of the Original Image is changing instead of the Image # folllowing the ME. any ideas?

5. Re: Naming Presets for Virtual Copies and PS Edits
soloalpinist Jul 13, 2012 6:57 PM (in response to Ian Lyons)OK... think I found a workable soloution... I just left filename as original and typed _ME in the template. LR numbers additional edits on its own without listing it in the template. Thanks so much for your time and help Ian! Cheers!
