Just guessing though.

Lotusii Jul 14, 2012 8:28 PM (in response to Steve Fairbairn)Mr. Fairbairn,
It's a vector drawing in and adobe program for iPad. I was hoping to keep vector format and layers, but it doesn't seem to be exporting anything but a flattened file. I love Ps but in this case I need the vector and layers to finish the project that I started in the app.
Thank you for the input, though!

Wade_Zimmerman Jul 14, 2012 10:03 PM (in response to Lotusii)You are being very vague but specific about what you need.
Why not just tell us what the application is called and what formats it supports?
The more you tell us the more there is a possibility that we can assist you.
Does the prgram set text and if so does it support open fonts, are the fonts psotscript or true fonts?
Does the program support bezier curves? Does it have pen tool can you copy and paste a bezier path?
And so on…
Layers and all that is fine but what is the nature of the out put can the program output for instance to eps?
Wmf? Emf? How abuo to a CAD file?

Wade_Zimmerman Jul 14, 2012 10:05 PM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)Oh I see it is actually called Adobe Ideas? That's the name of the Aplication.

5. Re: Is it possible to import a .idea file into Illustrator CS3?
Wade_Zimmerman Jul 14, 2012 10:13 PM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)Simple read the info about the app and it states pretty clearly that you sync to the Adobe Cloud to be able to sealessly refine it further in Illustrator.
I did not see whee it mentions exporting to any file type that is vector based other than this method.
Contact customer support or you can purchase a one month subscription to the cloud so you can do your work.
That is exactly the idea behind this.

6. Re: Is it possible to import a .idea file into Illustrator CS3?
Wade_Zimmerman Jul 14, 2012 10:21 PM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)Furtrher readig states that sending the file by way of e-mail will create a pdf that will be able to be opened in Illustrator or Photoshop it does not indicate that the file will be flattened/. There may be a Cloud membership specifically for users of these iPad application which might not be billed at the same rate as the normal cloud membership you should check all of this out.
There must be a forum for this Application.

9. Re: Is it possible to import a .idea file into Illustrator CS3?
Monika Gause Jul 15, 2012 6:14 AM (in response to Lotusii)You can directly open idea-files in Illustrator CS6
and as Wade already mentioned, you need Creative cloud to transfer the idea files. At least when the iPad is not jailbreaked (I don't know if you could access the file system enough to transfer the idea file directly with a jailbreak).

Lotusii Jul 15, 2012 7:24 AM (in response to Monika Gause)Ms. Gause,
Thank you for your help! I very much appreciate it. That tells me all I need to know. Since I'm working from CS3, I'm guessing there's a bit of programming missing that CS6 included, which is why I can't open the .idea file.

Monika Gause Jul 15, 2012 7:48 AM (in response to Lotusii)1 person found this helpfulYou would need some kind of plugin to give Illustrator CS3 the ability to understand that file format. Maybe you have a friend who has access to the cloud and Illustrator CS6 who can download the file from your iPad or tablet, access it for you and downsave it to CS3?

12. Re: Is it possible to import a .idea file into Illustrator CS3?
Lotusii Jul 15, 2012 7:57 AM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)Mr. Zimmerman,
Thank you for taking up six post spaces on this forum question. Obviously I haven't read any of the app information, or subscribed to the adobe cloud, or searched the forums, despite having used those to discover this problem. Perhaps I should have underlined the program name that I mentioned in my original post, and the file formats I listed, which are only available if downloaded from the cloud, so that you could have more easily understood my question. I should have included Google link for the application so you wouldn't have to waste time looking it up for yourself. Maybe I should have mentioned that I called support and they suggested that I post in the forums to see if anyone else had gotten around the problem.
Also, sadly, the link doesn't answer my question. You seem to think that I am simply trying to export files. I have demonstrated in my original question and my reply to a previous answer, that I have already exported in every file available for use with the app and the cloud. I was asking, since I need to clarify, why .idea files would not open in Illustrator CS3, and why, when other file formats were tried, did they not preserve the layers. Also, since they wouldn't, was there another way to export besides the -listed- export file formats that would allow layers. And, as before when I tried a search in the Adobe Ideas forum, there was no answer to how to open an idea file in CS3, or preserve the layers in CS3 in any of the other file formats offered.
I am sorry that you misunderstood my question.
Have a lovely day!

13. Re: Is it possible to import a .idea file into Illustrator CS3?
Lotusii Jul 15, 2012 8:00 AM (in response to Monika Gause)Ms. Gause,
I do have a friend with CS6, but I don't want to have to ask her each time I want to dowload a file with layers. I'm searching now for a patch or plug in to make CS3 compatible with .idea files. Not having a lot of luck. Seems like the big idea is "upgrade or nothing", but I'm sure if I dig deep enough I'll find something.
Again, thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.

Lotusii Jul 15, 2012 2:30 PM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)Mr. Zimmerman,
Gee, I wonder why I didn't think of that in the first place! I'll just get my $700 that's just laying around doing nothing, and stop worrying about all these backwards compatibility issues with CS3! There was no reason for me to even post here in the first place! Thanks ever so much!
Your advice doesn't seem to be worth much right now. You still haven't helped me or given me a good answer. I'm going to follow some very good advice and stop feeding the troll.

17. Re: Is it possible to import a .idea file into Illustrator CS3?
Wade_Zimmerman Jul 15, 2012 10:35 PM (in response to Lotusii)I gave the Op as good advice as i could. As you will note on the forum that sometimes good advice is often viewed upon as a personal afront eeven by those who are not involved as it is not the way they would handle it.
Just about every regular participant has been accused of beiung rude insensitive and mean spirited bar none. zEven though it has been during a time when the participant has tried to help and thought that the user seeking help was missing the point.
Like itor not we all see things differently and many users who have been great contributors no longer participate in the forum because of tthe lack of understanding that each peron is an individual and an expresses themselves the best they can, you might disagree.

18. Re: Is it possible to import a .idea file into Illustrator CS3?
Lotusii Jul 16, 2012 4:06 PM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)It was viewed as mean spirited because it was, and in six different posts. That is why so many new users are intimidated and refuse to ask questions on forums - because of the lack of understanding or kindness given by long-standing contributors.
I'm sorry if you disagree, and I am very sorry if you don't see how you were being rude. At any rate I have the information that I asked for, from a different user, and will no longer be viewing this thread. Say what you like, I will no longer be opposing you. I have better things to do with my time than argue with you over impoliteness and impatience. Please have a lovely day.
