Why is my "Open in Adobe Audition" greyed out in PP cs6?

    Steve from NY Community Member

I have the cs6 master collection, pc, with all the updates yet  my "Open in Adobe Audition" greyed out in PP cs6?

I cant dynamic link from PP cs6 to audition cs6. Encore & AFX dynamic links work. Audition opens fine on its own & works fine.

Steve, reading your issue carefully, I don't know if the following will help or not, but will give you the information.

I think in fact that the problem I solve has to do with having installed as Trial before later converting with a serial number; and possibly also with removing an earlier CS version (in my case CS5.5), both of which are things we often sensibly do.

What you can do is, quite carefully (as mistakes can require your machine to be reinstalled from scratch), open up regedit, presuming you are on Windows.

          - go to and select HKEYCLASSESROOT\Applications. Applications will be a bit hard to find, but the list is alphabetical, and it will be there

          - now, under HKEYCLASSES\Applications, find and select Adobe Audition CS6.exe\shell\open\cmd.

          - double-click the Default key, which is the only one you find there, and look carefully at its now-editable text.

          - if you have the problem I was having, you may see that the value is subtly wrong compared to the Adobe installation. Mine said:

              "C:\Program Files\AdobeAdobe Audition CS6\Adobe Audition CS6.exe" "%1"

          - What's missing is the backslash to separate AdobeAdobe. If it's missing (only) put it in, to result in the following

              "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Audition CS6\Adobe Audition CS6.exe" "%1"

          - last is to close this key editing by clicking Ok, and then close regedit itself.

          - if you have any windows open to .sesx files, do a refresh, or if needed use Open With and select to open one of them with Audition, clicking the 'do this always' checkbox, then refresh.

Steve, again, I would only do this if you find the key is wrong. The symptoms I was having were that .sesx session files weren't linked to Audition CS6 for icon and double-click to work, plus when I tried to remedy this via Open With, I could find and select Adobe Audition CS6 on its path under Program Files, but this would be silently refused. If you don't also have those symptoms, this is likely not the fix you want to try.

I also noted that after the key was corrected, there were many more choices of what to use to open the session files; invalid except for the text editors, but shows the bad key was confusing Windows in more than one way.

Ok, may help, or may give an idea to someone else to help. I realized to try this from similar problems with Photoshop CS6, from a forum story here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4568706#4568706
