It appears to me that the original filename is NOT retained when you import pictures from another catalog. Is that right? Here is why I'm asking -- When I imported from the camera, I renamed all the pictures. Now I have imported from that catalog into another catalog. In the second catalog, it seems that the original filename is lost -- I can't rename using the original filename from the camera.

Rename photos when importing
When copying or moving photos into the catalog during import, you can specify how the files are named.
- In the File Renaming panel on the right side of the import window, select Rename Files.
- If you choose a naming option that uses a custom name, type the name in the Custom Text field.
- If you don’t want a numeric sequence to start with “1,” enter a value in the Start Number field.

and a basic tutorial on importing into catalogs:
I didn't make clear my question. Is the original filename retained when a photo is imported from a catalog? I've editted my question to clarify the question. The impact for me is that I cannot rename in the second catalog using the original filename (the name on the membory card). A second and greater impact is that the "suspected duplicates" feature no longer works for the renamed files.
That has been my experience. I don't agree with it but it happens.
I think that is the way it works. It is not the ideal thing IMHO.
Yep, the original filename is lost (along with the importHash).
I'd call it a bug.
