1. Re: CS4 Adjusting a gradient on the image?
c.pfaffenbichler Jul 19, 2012 5:54 AM (in response to franontheedge)I'm sure I've done this before but can't remember what I clicked in the tools pallette to get the handles to appear.
Are you sure you are not confusing this with Illustrator and/or a higher version?

c.pfaffenbichler Jul 19, 2012 5:56 AM (in response to franontheedge)Or do you mean a Gradient Layer? Layer > New Fill Layer > Gradient

3. Re: CS4 Adjusting a gradient on the image?
franontheedge Jul 19, 2012 7:04 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)It's not a higher version - I haven't got a higher version so unless I have access to one in my dreams... nah!
I've got Illustrator but barely used it - mostly just to look at other peoples Illustrator images... So no, again.
It's definitely CS4 and definitely PhotoShop...

4. Re: CS4 Adjusting a gradient on the image?
c.pfaffenbichler Jul 19, 2012 7:08 AM (in response to franontheedge)So have you tried a Gradient Layer (with a Layer Mask or Vector Mask maybe)?

5. Re: CS4 Adjusting a gradient on the image?
franontheedge Jul 19, 2012 7:10 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)Well, I created a new layer and added a gradient to it - is that the same?
I have tried to follow your route - Layer > New Fill Layer > Gradient and it makes no difference whatsoever, I just need to know for either route, yours or mine - how to get the handles for the gradient to move them on the actual layer - not in the gradient editor.
I don't mind if I have to use your method or can still use mine - either way I need the handles....
Help?

franontheedge Jul 19, 2012 7:27 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)"So have you tried a Gradient Layer (with a Layer Mask or Vector Mask maybe)?"
No, I've never used a layer mask... ditto 'vector mask'. Wouldn't know how to start.
To get the handles up, I know it's something you click on the tools palette - I just can't remember what you click.
Does anyone know?

No, the Gradient Layer remains editable which I consider a major advantage.
I simply cannot follow your claims – maybe I’m misunderstanding or maybe I missed a feature. As far as I can tell one can only define the beginning and end of a Gradient on the Canvas, everything else (changing Color and Transparency Stops) needs the proper dialog.

If a Selection is active or a Path is selected when you create a Fill or Adjustment Layer it should automatically be used as a Mask and can subsequently be edited or removed.

10. Re: CS4 Adjusting a gradient on the image?
Brett N Jul 19, 2012 11:32 AM (in response to Sharon Huang)While you can follow Sharon's direction of using the Gradient tool to click and drag out a gradient, there is no dynamic process for adjusting a gradient on screen in Photoshop. Once you have dragged out the gradient path with the Grandient tool, there are no handles that standby waiting for you to adjust. Nor does such a feature exist for Gradient Fill layers.

12. Re: CS4 Adjusting a gradient on the image?
R_Kelly Jul 19, 2012 6:23 PM (in response to franontheedge)If you draw out a gradient using the gradient tool i can think your meaning invoke transform to to resize the whole gradient on the screen.
Edit>Free Transform or clicking on the Move Tool in the Toolbox to get the transform handles. (show transform controls has to be checked in the tool options bar with the move tool)
If you use a Gradient Fill Layer or Layer Style>Gradient Overlay then you can click directly on the screen while the gradient fill or layer style
gradient overlays dialogs are open and move the gradient. (that just moves the gradient, but doesn't resize the gradient)
