    Question about saving audio changes

    PrunedaleDiver

I am trying to reduce the soundtrack volume of several video clips in a presentation.  In Timeline I selected AudioTools icon > Audio Mix.

I adjusted the soundtrack volume (reduced to large -db, or mute) for a single clip (of many in sequence). It reduces the volume ok, but if I replay it the sound is back to full volume.  I do not see a "save" or "apply" button as in SmartMixer. Are there markers that I also have to set?

I have also right clicked the sound track and selected "properties" icon > volume to get "fade in" and "fade out".  Again, does not save the action.

There are several ways to attenuate Audio Volume (or Gain) in PrE. This ARTICLE goes into some detail on each method.

Note: When one uses Audio Mixer, it applies Audio TRACK Keyframes, and NOT Audio CLIP Keyframes. There can be a big difference.

          Good luck,

            Bill,

Thanks for the input.  Unfortunately, I am still having difficulty.  Probably something very simple that I am missing.

To clarify, I have one soundtrack that covers 15 video clips.  Audio 1 is the sound from the video clip.  I want to reduce/mute the Soundtrack Volume during several of the video clips so that video sound (voices) can be heard.

Here is what I tried for "Your First Choice" and "Your Other Choice".

            Method 1

            Put in Timeline display

Click anywhere on the soundtrack - it lights up

Click Edit (between Project and Disk Menus)

            Click Effects

Click Video Effects > Audio Effects

Select either Channel Volume or Volume

            Click Edit Effects

Click Volume --> Clip Volume Slider and also Fade In and Fade Out icons

Play Soundtrack.  Slide Volume Slider full left at beginning of each desired video clip and back to normal volume at end of each video clip.

            Click Done

            Click Apply

When replay, reduced Soundtrack volume does not occur as selected.

            Method 2

            Put in Timeline display

            Click on Soundtrack

            Click Audio Tools icon

Select Audio Mixer --> yields five dB sliders

            Select Play button

Reduce Soundtrack Level to -oo dB during desired video clips

            Pause the presentation

Position the blue slider to before the video clips with reduced Soundtrack volume

            Start presentation

Get no reduced volume of Soundtrack on selected video clips.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

              Dave,

Some users have had issues with both of the Fixed Audio Tracks, Soundtrack and Narration, though I thought that might have been fixed in PrE 10.

The workaround is to use one of the "regular" Audio Tracks, that is empty, say Audio Track 2, instead of either the Soundtrack or Narration.

Please give that a try, and report on whether that now works. You can lasso the Clips on Soundtrack, and just drag them all to another regular Audio Track.

              Good luck,

                Bill,

I moved the soundtrack to channel 2 and also channel 3 (individually) with same result.  I tried reversing the order of Edit and Apply and also tried Saving the change before replaying.  Also tried the same effects for Audio 1 which goes with the video.  No luck for any of these attempts.   I guess I'll have to give up on using the tools and just clip the soundtracks to fit.  Sure seems strange that these tools are included in PRE10 when you cannot save the effects.

I do not know if you have seen this THREAD on Audio attenuation, but there might be some useful tips in that too.

                  Good luck,

                    Bill,

Thanks much.  A further review of your Thread and I finally realized that I as using the Keyframes incorrectly.  Got it all working now.  Thanks for all your help and patience.
