1. Re: Export of edited sequence from field laptop to studio workstation ?
Harm Millaard Jul 27, 2012 4:21 AM (in response to Bob Dix Photographer)For what purpose? To continue editing or as a 'master' for encoding to BR or similar?

2. Re: Export of edited sequence from field laptop to studio workstation ?
Alan Craven Jul 27, 2012 6:47 AM (in response to Bob Dix Photographer)I simply copy the project file, together with all the media used, from my laptop to my desktop using my network, when I return home. All I have to do to recreate the project on my desktop is link the media when Premiere asks and let premiere re-create the cache. I accept the loss of any render files, etc, and the need to recreate the cache.
A second possibility would be to use the project manager to collect and copy all the project material to the new location on the desktop - you would need to have the two systems on a network, or use an external drive for this.
A third possibility, which I also use, is to have all the media on an external drive connected to the laptop for editing, and then connect this, together with the copied project file to my desktop. Copy the project file and media to a suitable location(s) on the desktop. Open the project, link the media when asked, and save, and you are good to go, once the cache has been re-created.

Bob Dix Photographer Jul 27, 2012 10:22 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)Hi Harm,
To continue editing, is there a cable connection I can use. Ie., to bring sequence into Master Workstation for final out put to BR or tape.
Thanks.
Bob
Ps I have the Dell M6600 , it is very good, (even though the latest M6700 is more powerfull), thanks.

Harm Millaard Jul 27, 2012 10:34 AM (in response to Bob Dix Photographer)Bob,
I agree with Alan that using an external is probably the easiest for your purpose, as long as you make sure that this external has the same drive letter attached on both systems. If you use a USB3 or preferably an eSATA external, the speed will be a nice surprise too.

UlfLaursen Jul 27, 2012 11:32 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)I agree too, external is the best. I use an USB 3.0 enclosure for a 2.5" drive on my laptop and transfer to my desktop, because I don't think you can get an eSata enclosure without external power.

Bill Gehrke Jul 28, 2012 5:48 PM (in response to UlfLaursen)Ulf, some eSATA 2.5-inch drives can be powered from a USB port with SATA transfers

UlfLaursen Jul 28, 2012 11:31 PM (in response to Bill Gehrke)Great news, Bill - thanks
I'll ask arround here in DK for such - would be great. There is actually a USB port right beside the eSata on my laptop, could be for that reason.

UlfLaursen Jul 28, 2012 11:55 PM (in response to UlfLaursen)I actually found this one:
RaidSonic
Have been pretty satisfied with other Raidsonic products, so I'll get one of these./Ulf -
10. Re: Export of edited sequence from field laptop to studio workstation ?
Alan Craven Jul 29, 2012 12:35 AM (in response to UlfLaursen)That is the one that I use - I have around 10 of these, some are several years old, and I have never had a problem with them. They come with short eSATA, USB micro, to fit socket on eSATA box, and USB power to fit power socket on eSATA box.
