What version of Reader are you trying to install? What service pack are you running? I think Reader X requires SP3.

If I were you, I would try running the Actobat and Reader Cleanup Tool
to remove all traces of any versions of Reader.
Then, if you want to reinstall Reader, download its full installer from

I answered the message....I am running Windows XP with service pk 3 and trying to install Adobe Reader X. The problem is with Windows Installer. I either get the message that the Installer is "not accessed" or that it is on a "network resource that is unavailable" Hopefully, this will be a bit more "helpful"
