Unable to download flash player

I have firefox and windows7. I cannot download flash player. It gets past the initialization stage and times out on the installation. Just recently my computer quit playing videos and was telling me I needed flash player which I already had. Thinking there was a problem with my current version, I uninstalled my version and cannot download a new version. Why ? Please help.
