JSS1138 Jul 15, 2012 9:44 AM (in response to dan_hin)You only need to Interpret if AME isn't seeing the file correctly. If it actually is interlaced, then all you need do to make it progressive is choose a progressive export preset.

dan_hin Jul 26, 2012 3:54 AM (in response to JSS1138)Hi Jim,
AME isn't seeing the file correctly, in fact in all the time I've used Avid quicktime codecs with Adobe software the Adobe software has never been able to correctly interpret the footage.

JSS1138 Jul 26, 2012 6:56 PM (in response to dan_hin)So...how is it seeing the files? What does AME think they are?

dan_hin Aug 7, 2012 5:28 AM (in response to JSS1138)It thinks it's progressive - no idea why! As far as I can make out there are no secondary dialogues for field order in Avid MC6 (we've had this issue since I can remember, from before MC5) other than the standard options + codec-specific options, so I don't think it's an issue with the Avid side of things. Are there any hidden options to assume a certain interpretation a la AE?

5. Re: Media Encoder Help | Add and manage items in the encoding queue
JSS1138 Aug 7, 2012 2:55 PM (in response to dan_hin)Given their QuickTime nature, I guess I'm not too surprised. QT is often a buggy container best avoided whenever possible.
Unfortunately, Adobe software doesn't yet play nice with DNxHD MXF files, so the only other option I might suggest is to skip DNxHD altogether and try something else that doesn't use QT.

dan_hin Aug 8, 2012 3:41 AM (in response to JSS1138)Good idea Jim - but unfortunately not something we're able to change at present, as the Avid is significantly quicker when exporting Avid-codec quicktime files. Would be nice to get a point release with improved support for Avid DNxHD MXF files.... We can only hope
Cheers for taking the time to help!

JSS1138 Aug 8, 2012 8:19 AM (in response to dan_hin)Yeah, I kind of like the idea of the Blackmagic Hyperdeck Shuttle myself, but the only format it records to that I find acceptable is DNxHD in an MXF wrapper, so until Adobe adds support, that hardware is a no go for me.
