We need to know what kind of movie file you're trying to import. There are hundreds of types. We also need to know the version of your OS. If you can open up the .mov file in QuickTime player check the movie info for the codec.

Hit Command I when you open up the quicktime player to get the Inspector panel Rick is talking about.
i use quicktime open it,
and it shows that:
it is a PNG file
Without any more additional information than that, I can only recommend that you use the Enable Legacy Codecs selection in QT Pro Preferences. And if you happen to have QT X installed, get rid of it in favor of the latest version of QT 7.
I have this problem at soon time , i have updated Quick Time and the problem solved

I don't know if anyone is still struggling with this issue but this is what I did:
1; Installed Quicktime (Latest version).
I then closed after effects and opened again and the issue was still existant.
2; Restarted my computer.
This fixed the issue.
