    KRK Monitors

    Huntrex Level 2

      Hello again,

I believe I'll heed the advice of purchasing KRK monitors for my editing setup, but only in stereo. B&H has the RoKit 5, 6, and 8. Because I'm purchasing two speakers, ether the 5 or 6 would be in my price range. So, is the 6 worth the extra $50?

The inputs are XLR, TRS and RCA, although the unbalanced RCA is not recommended. What is the best way to interface these with my new ATK system?

The RP5's are great and more than enough for video work. I would recommend the RP5. The RP6's just have more Power basically.

its best to use a dedicated audio device to run full potential for the krk speakers, however you can run a headphone cable to xlr.

have a look at motu audio interfaces if you want for future.

krk speakers are usually sold in singles so best check. also the current models are the G2.

Okay, thanks guys. I found Hosa Stereo 3.5mm Mini  Male to XLR Male Cables for $7 each. I also found a 3.5 to 1/4 TRS cable for $17.85.

Because I'm not using an audio interface, am I going to loose a good deal of what these speakers are capable of?

You will lose a significant amount of the KRK monitors' capability because onboard motherboard audio is, well, mediocre at best in quality (though on-motherboard audio has gotten better over the past few years, it still has yet to catch up with discrete audio solutions).

Yeah, I figured it would loose a good amount using this method. Though I imagine the quality would be sufficient to mix and process audio for the time being, correct?

If/when I purchase a discrete audio solution, what model would you recommend? Thanks.

You need a 3.5mm to Stereo XLR or TRS, the links to the above are MONO.

                    Motu Audio Express is good.

                      Studio North,

I'm trying to understand why I would need a stereo connection to go from the left channel on the soundcard to the left speaker, and vice versa. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe XLR is only capable of mono. Unless you get some sort of system like this, and that's for a situation when both left and right channels are output through a headphone jack and it needs split for two different speakers.

                      Please enlighten me.

Usually motherboards dont have seperate audio channels, what is your motherboard ?? if you do have seperate channels then of course you will need single cables.

The Profire 610 is more than enough for audio work with video with enough channels for surround mixes.

The single notch on the TRS is unbalanced audio. The 2 notches is Balanced audio. Beyond that both almost always output Mono unless the manufacturer sets that channel for Stereo output such as a headphone out.

                              hello Eric,

                              regarding the cable itself:

one notch is mono, two notches is stereo

                              is this correct?

and then depending on whether or not the input/output

is 'wired' for a stereo or mono signal will dictate

what type of signal travels along that cable...?

i've been trying to understand this for years...

the older maudio firewire 410 had unbalanced outputs...

i also got the dreaded hum from the firewire 410

but with the profire 610 there is no interference...

                              really a solid product...

                              any more info is appreciated...

The balanced TRS with 2 notches can be stereo but that does not mean they always are. That depends on the actual Input or output channels/channel ie device circuitry your plugging into. Unbalanced is Mono as far as I know.
