Can anyone help me with EPUB files on my E-Reader?

Hi I have purchased some e-books and opened them in ADE. I added my E-Reader device and authorised, all ok. I dragged the e-books to my E-Reader which all seemed fine. But when I unplug the USB and go onto my E-Reader, the e-books won't open and the symbol is a zip folder. I have been looking online for help all day and can't seem to find any. I just want to be able to read my books! My E-Reader says it is compatible with EPUB and all the other files.
