1. Re: CS6 Warp Stabilizer giving me a very small window results
Fuzzy Barsik Aug 28, 2012 3:10 AM (in response to BJBBJB1)If you're trying to stabilise footage with a lot of camera movement or rotation in the shot with 'No Motion' settings, that's what you get.

BJBBJB1 Aug 28, 2012 5:52 AM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)Thanks....I thought of that but I have "smooth motion" selected which is what surprised me. Plus all the other default settings. Very strange.
I'll just have to break it down into smaller segments and see what it does.
I mean the window is like 20% of the vertical screen size right in the middle. And does not go to the edge of the screen.

Wizard Waitley Aug 28, 2012 6:50 AM (in response to BJBBJB1)Ive seen this a lot with my work, I shoot a lot of fast moving glidecam stuff, though I have found that by adjusting the smoothness and additional scale parameters I can get good results without such a crop!

4. Re: CS6 Warp Stabilizer giving me a very small window results
Fuzzy Barsik Aug 28, 2012 7:17 AM (in response to BJBBJB1)Well, once I actually had similar result with completely awful underwater shot where the camera had been terribly shaking, moving and rotating in a current within just 5 seconds. I was not going to use this clip in a movie, but was simply dabbling with Warp Stabilizer... Just recalled and tracked down that project...

5. Re: CS6 Warp Stabilizer giving me a very small window results
Noberto.Clarkos Aug 28, 2012 7:28 AM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)You say a short 4 minute clip but is that a single shot or a short edit? If it is a compilation of shots then it is not a good idea to apply Warp Stabiliser to it as it contains too much varied data. Even if it is a 4 minute single shot, it is still a huge amount of data to analyze, unless you want a 4 minute stable shot which you do not see very often.
If possible break up the shot into parts that you intend to use thus could be causing this strange issue.
To help answer your question better what is the source footage? Which camera was it shot on? What sequence settings are you using? Other effects applied to the clip?

6. Re: CS6 Warp Stabilizer giving me a very small window results
Fuzzy Barsik Aug 28, 2012 7:40 AM (in response to Noberto.Clarkos)This issue is not strange at all. As I mentioned in my previous comment, similar result can be achieved with just 5 second clip. What is in the shot matters much more.

I had begun to compose my reply before your message had been posted so I never read that. True though that the quality of the shot matters most, but you are not helping yourself by trying to stabilize a 4 minute clip.

8. Re: CS6 Warp Stabilizer giving me a very small window results
Fuzzy Barsik Aug 28, 2012 7:56 AM (in response to Noberto.Clarkos)Completely agree. I hardly use in a movie a continuous shot longer than 10 seconds.
However, sometimes (e.g. for stock footages) you have to present a long continuous shot.

9. Re: CS6 Warp Stabilizer giving me a very small window results
BJBBJB1 Aug 28, 2012 2:07 PM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)Thanks to all for your insightful comments!! I will definitely try to cut down the length and omit an pans which may be confusing the stabilizer.
I was hoping it would be able to avoid instances of things like that but I I guess that is what causing the results I am seeing. Because I don't think the shaking is so bad you would need half the frame to fix it!
It is just a clip of HDV outdoors, handheld, with some panning, etc. shot with an HV20. Sequence settings match the HDV resolution. I'll cut the panning out and try again.
Good to see other are seeing those results and were able to improve by playing with the parameters.
Thanks again,
BJBBJB1
