1. Re: Help Required 2x Areca Raid Cards
Bill Gehrke Sep 4, 2012 11:02 AM (in response to Studio North Films)Baz, I cannot make an experienced call on that situation but what I would do is write an email to Areca Support [support@areca.com.tw] and see what they say. I have seen two of the same controller so I would guess it might be possible.

2. Re: Help Required 2x Areca Raid Cards
ECBowen Sep 4, 2012 12:06 PM (in response to Studio North Films)That is up to the management software and firmware of the cards. If the firmware allows the cards to grab different resources then they both will initialize. If the management software allows you to manage both cards then your fine there. However if you are attempting to span a raid over both cards then that will require a contact with Areca. Intel cards have that option with an internal cable or atleast they did in the past. Normally a SAS expander card is a better solution than 2 raid cards currently.

JEShort01 Sep 4, 2012 3:32 PM (in response to Studio North Films)Baz,
You can certainly use a 1680ix and 1231ML together. The Areaca software allows you to set separate channels / IDs / Lun numbers for the RAID sets to prevent conflicts.
What exactly do you mean by "what is the best method"? I would suggest you put the cards in your motherboard in a way so each card has at least 8x PCI channels.

Studio North Films Sep 4, 2012 3:39 PM (in response to JEShort01)Hi
Jim
Before I start to fit the second card into the PC, I wanted to make sure if this method was suitable. When you mention Areca Software, is this the gui for windows or the bios startup.

JEShort01 Sep 4, 2012 6:41 PM (in response to Studio North Films)I normally use the Windows web browser GUI, but I'm pretty sure both tools will get you the same place.
