Ann Bens Sep 6, 2012 10:07 AM (in response to MannyEdwards)Yes, highlight the clip in the Project Window (or Source Monitor) first then rightclick Replace clip form ....

MannyEdwards Sep 6, 2012 10:26 AM (in response to Ann Bens)When I right click on a merged clip in the Project window, Replace Footage and Replace With Clip are grayed out, unavailable. Are you guys able to do this with a merged clip? Maybe it's a setting I've missed.
When I right click on a merged clip in the Source Monitor, Replace Footage and Replace With Clip are not in the menu.
If I right click on a merged clip in an open sequence, I have the option of Replace With Clip from the source monitor, but that's not what I need to do.

6. Re: Replacing Footage in Merged Clips cs6
MannyEdwards Sep 6, 2012 11:02 AM (in response to JSS1138)I need to edit using MTS files, then transcode the media I used for the edit into Prores files and replace the MTS footage with Prores.

JSS1138 Sep 6, 2012 11:04 AM (in response to MannyEdwards)Why?
If you need ProRes for effect work or something, you're better off just editing with those.

8. Re: Replacing Footage in Merged Clips cs6
MannyEdwards Sep 6, 2012 11:10 AM (in response to JSS1138)I have a feature length four-cam shoot with a high shooting ratio. It's a lot of footage. Transcoding everything first will take a huge amount of storage. If there's a way to use merged clips and edit with those, then transcode only the clips I used in the edit, that's what I need to do.

9. Re: Replacing Footage in Merged Clips cs6
JSS1138 Sep 6, 2012 11:13 AM (in response to MannyEdwards)Well, you're only option here is to make the clips offline and relink them to the ProRes versions. But I don't know if that will work between AVCHD and ProRes, and even if it does, it may still fail once the original clips have been merged. But that's the process. Make offline, then relink.
If that doesn't work, then it's time to get some more hard drives.

10. Re: Replacing Footage in Merged Clips cs6
MannyEdwards Sep 6, 2012 12:08 PM (in response to JSS1138)Thanks Jim. Looks like I'll need to adjust my workflow. I think my best bet is to watch all the footage, select my takes, transcode those, create merged clips, and then edit. If I need to fix something in the rough cut I'll transcode more takes.
But just to be abundantly sure before I set up a new post work flow.... is anyone aware of any clip merging process that preserves the ability to replace footage?
