1. Re: CS6 processes only RAW files only one-by-one
Noel Carboni Sep 6, 2012 8:17 AM (in response to TarmoHaud)What's the real problem you're trying to solve? That you want the files converted faster? Camera Raw is indeed slowing down as they add features and fix bugs. Your only real solution is to get a more powerful computer. Please see my comparison list of speeds to convert the same 50 raw images here:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/4667499#4667499
Did you time the set of conversions of the same files with both? Do your numbers line up with mine?
Regarding what you see on the screen... Have you looked at your Task Manager to see that it's busying all your cores? It doesn't busy them all 100%, but it does get them all working - no less so than Photoshop CS5. Camera Raw 7 simply does much more per conversion (and we benefit by it being easier than ever to get fantastic image quality out of our raw files).
It looks like what they've done in the latest version is to implement more multi-threading in an individual conversion, and thus they don't have to do multiple images simultaneously to get all your cores working. The advantage to this is that even a single image opens faster.

2. Re: CS6 processes only RAW files only one-by-one
TarmoHaud Sep 6, 2012 11:28 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Thanks Noel, this gave me a new sight into things, but still. Now I have measured the speeds, and with CS5 (ACR 6.0) 29 images took 167 sec (5,76 sec per conversion), but in CS6 (ACR7.1) the same 29 images took 264 sec (9,1 sec per conversion). So, almost double the time :s
On my occasion the conversion speed is quite important.
Anyway, thanks for the link, I will continue following that.

3. Re: CS6 processes only RAW files only one-by-one
Noel Carboni Sep 6, 2012 12:19 PM (in response to TarmoHaud)A 2 to 1 slowdown sounds like about the difference I measured between 6.6 and 7.1.
Adobe doesn't say much about it. Maybe they've bought stock in workstation companies.
