Xiaoyi Tong Sep 8, 2012 6:56 PM (in response to Mama Shan Canfield)HI Mama Shan,
Can you send us your extension( xtong@adobe.com ) or let us know where we can get it so that we can reproduce your problem. If you mind the IP issue, you can send us your mxi file only. Thanks.

3. Re: Extension Manager removing the whole Plug-ins folder along with the panel
Mama Shan Canfield Sep 8, 2012 7:45 PM (in response to Mama Shan Canfield)Don't know if this fact makes any difference but I am running all the Extension Managers (CS4, CS5, CS6) as "Administrator" because otherwise it was not wanting to install the panel. No problem installing as Administrator but again, the "Remove" has removed everything that previously existed from the Plug-ins Folder on down in CS6, and from the Panels Folder on down in CS5.

4. Re: Extension Manager removing the whole Plug-ins folder along with the panel
Xiaoyi Tong Sep 8, 2012 8:20 PM (in response to Mama Shan Canfield)Hi Mama Shan,
It should be a bug in Extension Manager CS6. If the folder is NOT created by extension installation, it should NOT be removed when the extension is removed. This problem happens only when there is nothing except the extension files to be removed in the folder. For example, if any other files or folders exist in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-Ins\Panels\, "Plug-Ins and Panels" will NOT be removed; if any other files or folders exist in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-Ins, "Plug-Ins" will NOT be removed. If these folders were removed by this bug, it can be created again automatically when the user isntalls an extension which copies files to them. So the impact should not be too much. Anyway, it is a bug and we will fix it, and add the fix to the next patch. Thanks a lot for your report!

5. Re: Extension Manager removing the whole Plug-ins folder along with the panel
Mama Shan Canfield Sep 8, 2012 8:48 PM (in response to Xiaoyi Tong)Well it's got to be a bug in CS5, too since the outcome was similar. How do I get the Plug-ins folder with all the default contents that were there originally (not my stuff) ? Do I need to uninstall both CS5 & CS6 and re-install just to get the default plug-ins back or is there a link I can download just those folders for just that part of the Program?
Here's another odd thing I looked in the (x86) version for CS6 and the whole Plug-ins folder is also missing even though the install and remove was on the 64 bit version.
Question #1: In CS5 in the (x86) folder the plug-ins are still there. So can I copy that Plug-ins folder to the CS5 64-bit version?
Question #2: Still need to recover for my CS6 as both the (x86) and 64-bit folders are missing the whole Plug-ins folder so what's your advice there?
Thank you!

6. Re: Extension Manager removing the whole Plug-ins folder along with the panel
Xiaoyi Tong Sep 8, 2012 9:01 PM (in response to Mama Shan Canfield)Hi Mama,
Plug-ins folder will NOT be removed if there are any default contents in it. The bug only removes Plug-ins folder when it is empty( no content files there ). These folders will be created automatically when some extensions are trying to copy files to them. So I don't think you need to concern it. If you do want to get Plug-ins folder back, you can create them manually, for example, mkdir C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-Ins, and mkdir C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-Ins\Panels.
The extension you installed indicate "familyname='Photoshop' ", which means your extension supports Photoshop32 and Photoshop64 in windows. So installing/removing extension will be applied to both Photoshop32 and Photoshop64. That is why you found the folder in 64-bit was missing too.
I have not try it on CS5 yet. If it is a bug, we will fix it. Thank you.

7. Re: Extension Manager removing the whole Plug-ins folder along with the panel
Mama Shan Canfield Sep 8, 2012 9:15 PM (in response to Xiaoyi Tong)Also here is more info that might be germane--
I am using Extend Script Toolkit CS6 3.8.0.12 ExtendSript 2.12 ScriptUI 6.1.8 to edit and generate 1 .mxi file for use in CS5 & CS6 and another .mxi file for use in CS4.
I open the Adobe Extension Manager for CS5 to create the .mxp files for CS5 & CS6
I double click on the .mxp file and it automatically opens Adobe Extension Manager CS6 and installs the panel into Photoshop CS6
I manually open Adobe Extension Manager CS5 it is sluggish to open and shows a progress bar. Then I do a File>Open to install the panel into Photoshop CS5.
In the testing of various iterations of mypanel, I have removed the previous version of mypanel, so there is nothing showing as enabled or installed in the EM. So, are you kind of saying that if I hadn't emptied out the panel but had left my own panels in there as just disabled, rather than "removed" that the rest of the whole Plug-ins folder would still be there. Leaving something in there would have been like saving an empty seat for a friend at the theater?
The Versions of Adobe Extension Manager that I am using are:
CS6 version 6.0.2.40
CS5 version 5.0.334
CS4 Version 2.1.112 (which appears to be working as it should!)

8. Re: Extension Manager removing the whole Plug-ins folder along with the panel
Mama Shan Canfield Sep 8, 2012 9:20 PM (in response to Xiaoyi Tong)I know I can create a Panels folder if that is missing but simply creating a folder named Plug-ins does not give me back the missing "others" that were inside the Plug-ins folder before Adobe Extension Manager extinguished them-- like 3D Engines, ADB, Automate, Digimarc, Effects, Extensions, File Formats, Filters, etc etc.

9. Re: Extension Manager removing the whole Plug-ins folder along with the panel
Xiaoyi Tong Sep 8, 2012 9:32 PM (in response to Mama Shan Canfield)Hi Mama Shan,
If you have 2 extensions installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-Ins\Panels, such as
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-Ins\Panels\Template Wands1
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-Ins\Panels\Template Wands2
When you remove "Template Wands1" from Extension Manager, will your "Template Wands2" be removed too because the parent folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-Ins" will be removed? In my test, if "Template Wands2" exists, "Plug-Ins" folder will NOT be removed, because although "Template Wands1" is removed, there is still "Template Wands2" there, so "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-Ins" will NOT be removed.
If you have different result, we need to analyze the differences between yours and mine. Thanks.

10. Re: Extension Manager removing the whole Plug-ins folder along with the panel
Mama Shan Canfield Sep 8, 2012 9:34 PM (in response to Xiaoyi Tong)That makes sense for the the 32 and 64, yet in CS5 it left the Plug-ins folder in 32 totally intact but vaporized it in the 64.
I thought maybe the full Plug-ins Folder would somehow rebuild and re-appear, as a prefs file does, if I installed mypanel again, but it didn't! The ONLY thing there is Plug-ins>Panels>mypanel. All the other default folders that should be in Plug-ins did not rise from the dead and magically re-appear.

Mama Shan Canfield Sep 8, 2012 10:50 PM (in response to Xiaoyi Tong)I'll copy the default Plug-ins from the CS5 32 to the CS5 64 and do a video tomorrow to show you from start to finish how the Extension manager eating the whole Plug-ins folder when a panel is removed, or we could do a screen meeting. Can't show you in CS6 until you advise me how to get all those defautl folders. Nite, nite and thanks for your time!

14. Re: Extension Manager removing the whole Plug-ins folder along with the panel
guoxy Sep 9, 2012 8:29 PM (in response to Xiaoyi Tong)Hi Mama Shan,
I am QE of Extension Manager and below is my testing result.
Could you please check whether the testing result below is the same as yours?
Testing with Extension Manager CS6 6.0.2.40 build and Photoshop CS6(32 bit) and Photoshop CS6 (64 bit) on Windows 7 64 OS
1: if the 'Plug-Ins/Panels" has no only the "Template Wands" folder , but also has other folders like a empty folder "A Test" folder:
after remove the "Template Wands" extension in Extensionb Manager CS6, only the "Template Wands" folder is removed, the "A Test"folder still exists. The "Plug-Ins/Panels" folder still there.
2: if the "Plug-Ins/Panels" only have "Tempate Wands" folder:
after remove the "Template Wands" extension in Extension Manager CS6, the "Plug-Ins" folder is removed.
We have filed a bug for the 2nd result.
If you have other different testing results, please give us your detailed steps and the result.
Thanks
Xiaoyan

Mama Shan Canfield Sep 9, 2012 10:04 PM (in response to guoxy)Yes I think you've got it. Here's a link to show you my steps live in a video.
Also since I just started making the MXP files and trying to test the panel, my Photoshop stops working (crashes) after a few minutes, too. Never did that before when I manually just copied and pasted the Template Wands folder into the Panels folder.

16. Re: Extension Manager removing the whole Plug-ins folder along with the panel
Mama Shan Canfield Sep 9, 2012 10:07 PM (in response to Mama Shan Canfield)Also note that Extension Manager CS5 sort of does the same thing except it leaves the Plug-ins folder but will remove the Panels folder and it's contents if there was only one thing in it.
