    shaving off objects that overlap

    mhossey Community Member

I have an object that I applied gaussian blur to and it extends the boundries. It is on top of a tan object, I need to "shave" the excess blur off to make it a clean and line up with my tan object. What is the most effeciant way to this. In PS I would creat a selection around the tan object, then invert the selection and hit delete on the blur layer....what is the equivelant to that in AI?

The tan object can be used as a mask. Move the blurred item below it, select both and choose "Objec>Clipping Mask>Make". You will then need to reassign the tan color the the clipping mask object.

Alternatively, you could duplicate the tan object to use as a clipping mask and leave the tan abject as a separate object.

You could also create a radial gradient to create the blurred edge appearance and adjust the gradient using the Gradient Annotator.

            Hey Perfect man!

I found that once I applied the clipping mask the blur still extended into my green object, so I applied a mask on the blur, then used a black square to mask it out!

*Note to anyone following* you have to expand the stroke on the tan object, if you dont, then when applying the first clipping mask, the blur still bleeds ever so slightly onto the stroke.

            Thanks man!
