    simple edit button question

    nefl777 Community Member

sorry this is SO simple but I've spent way too much time tryng to figure it out. I have a button that has an underline.  One button won't show the underline when they are selected while others will. I see the difference has to do with the box around the text.  I think that IF the box extends over the underline, it  will show the underline when selected.  If the box won't extend over the underline, it doesnt. Here's a screenshot of a button that shows the underline ok:

note that the box with the select squares around it OVERLAPs the white line underneith.

Here is a button that will not show the underline:

see how the box around the text does not cover the line.  my question is; how to make the box include the line?  when I move it in any way, the text just grows or shrinks...  I can't seem to move or resize that box all by itself.  I do know how to move the white line ok.  THANKS guys. I'm quite frustrated.

Instead of trying to fix this in Encore, use the "edit in photoshop." It doesn't matter whether the line is inside the textbox. It just needs to be in the button group and marked as a highlight. You can easily see that and fix it in PS.

Thin lines sometimes present issues depending on where they are in the frame.

I would check this in PS first.

If you don't see the issue, please post a screenshot of from PS with at least this layer and another layer (that works) twirled open (sowe can see the layers inside each button group).

Hi stan,  thanks for taking the time to answer! I went into photoshop and these buttons are marked "non-editable adjustment".  Is there a setting somewhere to unlock this?  thanks!!

Make sure you are in the layers panel.

Post a screenshot if it doesn't make sense.

Ok, I sent the menu to Photoshop from EN.  here is a screenshot of the layers panel:

                Screen shot 2012-09-22 at 6.06.11 PM.png

note the Pen with the slash across. That indicates a 'non-editable adjustment' layer.

I tried double clicking on it but it thinks I want to rename.  I right clicked on it and the only options available (others are greyed out) are 'enable, duplicate, and delete'.

                ideas?

I have not seen that. You should have a triangle to open that layer (it is the top of the button group).

I would try the "enable" option.

To me the buttons look correct.

Bluebox for text and highlight, green for overall

The underline should have a blue bounding box of its own

It just happend that the 'g' overlaps the highlight

Where did this menu come from?

Hi Ann, yes you are right. the button came from the button library.

do you know how to resize the text correctly?

my question is; how to make the box include the line?  when I move it in any way, the text just grows or shrinks...  I can't seem to move or resize that box all by itself.  I do know how to move the white line ok.

The whole reason I want to do this is because when I test the menu, and put the cursor on top of the button, the lower line will not show up.  when the box covers the line, the lower line does show up.  thank you!

Dont think that will make any difference if the line is showing through the blue box or not.

                        Which menu/button is it?

I think its a menu glitch

When i have made a menu that does not work properly i do not fix it but start over.

I agree with Ann; start over. But here's some more info.

my question is; how to make the box include the line?  when I move it in any way, the text just grows or shrinks...  I can't seem to move or resize that box all by itself.  I do know how to move the white line ok.

Selecting the various layers of the button group can be difficult. See post 7 in the following regarding the Select Tool, the Direct Select Tool, and the Text Tool.

                          http://forums.adobe.com/message/4077891#4077891

The whole reason I want to do this is because when I test the menu, and put the cursor on top of the button, the lower line will not show up.  when the box covers the line, the lower line does show up.

You're assuming that is why. And if you can adjust it to make it work, that will be great. But it is more likely that there is a glitch in this instance of this button that you are not likely to get fixed or that it is something other than your theory. For example, if you got the layers switched, I suppose it is possible for a highlight to be hidden by the text layer. (But buttons normally have the highlight layer above the text layer.)
