I am running vista home with sp2 and my browser is IE9. Dont understand about Flashinstall.log file where it is or what it is. Would be grateful for assistance.

In SuzyQ's log, FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl (the Flash Player control panel) appears to be in use.  If it's running, simply close it and try again.  However, we could be running into a third party utility that has this file "locked". 

Here's what I do when I encounter these types of errors.  The trick here is to identify what application has the file in use, and kill the process.

1. Download, unzip, and launch Microsoft's Process Explorer

2. Close all your web browsers and anything else that might be using Flash

3. Select "Find Handle or DLL..." in Process Explorer's Find menu (or hit Ctrl+F)

4. Type a portion of the filename in the Handle or DLL substring text box.  In SuzyQ's case, I'd simply type "flash" as the full filename was "flashplayercplapp.cpl".

5. You should see one or more entries appear in the "matching items" list, select one and the row for this entry will be selected and scrolled into view in the main Process Explorer window.

6. Sometimes, knowing the process details will give you enough information to quit the offending application normally.  However, if you aren't sure what application to close, you can force quit by right clicking on the entry in the main Process Explorer window and selecting "Kill Process."

7. Back in the search dialog, click the search button again to verify nothing appears in the list.  If more items are present, repeat the steps to quit those processes.

8. Once all processes have been closed, attempt the install again.

There is no installation.log file any where on the computer. Tried the above using the process explorer but could not find any thing with flash in it.Tried all combinations of flash/flashplayer it didn't find any thing. Dont know where to go from here??

For those following along, we were able to fix this issue by deleting the "Macromed" folder in Bob's Windows\system32 folder and then install via the stand alone ActiveX installer linked above.
