1. Re: can production premium 5.03 and cs6 6.03 coexist happily on one win7 machine?
cfg_2451 Sep 29, 2012 2:14 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)Absolutely. Installed exacly that way on the win7 machine I'm using as I type this. It works because they are completely separate programs. You can, if you want, open up one project in PPro CS5, and another project in PPro cs6 and work on them both at the same time. Don't ask me how to maintain your sanity while doing that however.
To be honest, I've not used the CS5 versions hardly at all since installing CS6 a few months ago. CS6 is a considerable improvement for me, and I don't have any need to look back at all -- zero "instability issues" here.

tfi productions 44 Sep 29, 2012 2:18 PM (in response to cfg_2451)hello,
wow...very cool, indeed...
do you also use AE, Encore, AME without issue as well?
what type of footage do you use?
also, what about third party plug ins...do you have to reinstall
or are the effects accessible to both versions of cs?
thanks for answering...

1) yes - Production Premium suite
2) AVCHD
3) Depends. Many plugins are specific to an Adobe product/version. You'll have to check with the manufacturer. But most are going to require an upgrade to match the Adobe upgrade.

tfi productions 44 Sep 29, 2012 2:30 PM (in response to cfg_2451)hello,
have you been able to send from PPRO cs6
to AME a 2pass vbr bluray export
and then
open it up in Encore without Encore needing to
retranscode it?
thanks,

5. Re: can production premium 5.03 and cs6 6.03 coexist happily on one win7 machine?
Rallymax-forum Sep 29, 2012 4:18 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)The only warning I give you (as a plugin developer) is that after you install cs6 ( after cs5 ) the file associations get put to cs6 so if you double click a cs5 project it'll launch into the wrong version.
In the grand scheme - not a big deal.
Otherwise all should work back and forth between versions.
Just don't do dynamic linking.
...and it should all work. After all "a file is a file is a file".
The only time you are going to have a problem is when you output a file to a fedex that cs5 doesn't understand.
Btw I have cs4 cs5 and cs6 installed and it's just fine.

Yes. It us up to the plugin install program to detect the installed version and copy the prm files (and presets) to the right location. As soon as you install a second version the "current" setting in the windows registry gets updated and there is no knowledge if cs5 anymore.
My install program for x264pro (http://www.x264pro.com) is hugely complicated to deal with that but I think most plugins don't go to that effort.
So.... Get your cs5 setup with every plugin then install cs6 then the plugins again.
If you don't get them all then post back and I'll give you the gory details of how to copy the files from one to the other so that they show up in both.

8. Re: can production premium 5.03 and cs6 6.03 coexist happily on one win7 machine?
tfi productions 44 Sep 29, 2012 4:30 PM (in response to Rallymax-forum)hey E,
so to clarify with your system
that has cs4,5,6 installed:
you had 3rd party effects for cs4 (probably)
but then adobe went 64bit which
means new effects for cs5, cs6
do you also 'co install' different versions
of 3rd party effects to to go along with
versions of cs?
my school is probably getting me cs6 production premium
and then go 'halfsies' on a boris set of effects
that i would like to use for cs5.03 and cs6.03
any ideas/advice...
thanks,
j

9. Re: can production premium 5.03 and cs6 6.03 coexist happily on one win7 machine?
Rallymax-forum Sep 29, 2012 4:53 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)I unfortunately can't answer that. I don't have any 32bit plugins (cs4) that I needed in 64bit cs5/6.
But yes. You can't mix 32 and 64 bit plugins.

tfi productions 44 Sep 29, 2012 4:58 PM (in response to Rallymax-forum)hello,
are you using 3rd party plugins for your version of cs5
that are also working with cs6?
or
i guess i should check with the manufacturer
about backwards compatibility: buy for cs6
but also install for cs5.03...
thanks,

JSS1138 Sep 29, 2012 9:10 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)but the instability issues have me somewhat concerned
I haven't had any of those myself on two machines. There's a Mac thread about stability, but on Windows 7 CS6 is pretty stable.

tfi productions 44 Sep 29, 2012 9:31 PM (in response to JSS1138)hello,
thank you for helping convince me to get cs6
have you tried x264pro? that's one reason i want to upgrade...
thanks,
j
and encore is fiinally 64bit...
i wish sony would update acidpro to 64bit
propellerhead's reason is 64bit
izotope ozone is 64bit
i'd like to be able to plugin izotope into ppro cs6
that would be killer mastering for audio
anyway, thanks again...
