2. Re: Can I play back video on the PP timeline with a GTX 680?
JSS1138 Oct 6, 2012 10:07 AM (in response to cemengin3)PP can play back video on the timeline using pretty much any video card.

cemengin3 Oct 6, 2012 2:00 PM (in response to JSS1138)Well, let me tell you why I had the concerning thought in first place..
The link that John T Smith provided is where I got the question...
Aug 24, 2002
Harm,
I don't believe that there will be much of a a problem. Look at the stats of the GTX680 cards on the PPBM5 results. Numbers 7 and 12 both have a GTX680. It doesn't seem that the GTX680, or my GTX670 will really make a difference over a GTX580, for example, but it doesn't look like it will do any harm. It is a little hard to tell from the stats, but if the GTX670 does as well as the GTX570, and yet I have Ray Tracing in After Effects, I am OK with that.
However, if it turns out that Premiere Pro can't use the GTX6xx cards to play back video on the timeline, I will probably just have to get a GTX580 to hold me over until Adobe addresses the issue.
Thus, I created the question thread...

John T Smith Oct 6, 2012 2:38 PM (in response to cemengin3)Simple play back and using CUDA are two different things
The 680 is not (as far as I know) officially supported yet... so you just use the hack http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629557

5. Re: Can I play back video on the PP timeline with a GTX 680?
cemengin3 Oct 6, 2012 3:21 PM (in response to John T Smith)This is going to be a weird coincidence but I have to give you the exact link you gave me back... :))
Right after I replied this thread I received e mail from the forum regarding a replay I got from
Steven L Gotz, who raised the question about CUDA activated playback issue, in that thread...
So, he says
The GTX 680 is now on the list. Fully approved by Adobe.
I wouldn't mind changing the code every time PP is updated as long as Premiere Pro CAN use the GTX680 cards to playback video
on the timeline... I've been hearing all the time that people with a GTX680 card were pretty happy with the hack... But once I read Steven making that remark about the possibility of PP not using the GTX680 to playback video on the timeline, I was terrified about the possibility of making the wrong choice... But now I am not sure if he meant the AE?! Because I am looking for the CS6 approved CUDA cards list and (most likely because I am an idiot and tired) can't find it, but also there is no buzz in any threads about it... So maybe he meant for AE, because 680 is in that list...
Anyway, I am sorry for yabbering away...

John T Smith Oct 6, 2012 6:11 PM (in response to cemengin3)>changing the code every time PP is updated
I didn't save a link (my Adobe notes file is large enough as it is) but that was discussed recently... and the solution was simply to keep a copy of the TXT file in a different folder, and copy it back if an update removed the specific card from the list
