Naninou Oct 9, 2012 8:09 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)Yes, it's the default version in the i1 Profiler.
What is the difference between the version 2 and 4 ?

Noel Carboni Oct 9, 2012 8:10 AM (in response to Naninou)You're using the ProPhoto RGB color space for your documents, right?
There's a known bug (Adobe would like to call it "inaccuracy") in the color-management logic in Photoshop when said logic is run in the GPU, which is the case with Normal and Advanced GPU modes. As far as I have seen, it appears only with the ProPhoto RGB document color profile.
I reported this back in the time of Photoshop CS5. They have not yet seen fit to fix it.

Your possible workarounds include:
- Switching the Graphics Processor Advanced Mode to Basic, which moves the color-management logic to the CPU from the GPU. That produces a more accurate result.
- Using a color profile other than ProPhoto RGB for your black and white work.

6. Re: Banding in Ps CS6 13.0.1 but not in Lr 4.2 !
Naninou Oct 9, 2012 8:39 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Spot on Noel, this is the exact same issue !
But i have a question :
how can we be so few people to see this issue when my workflow is the most recommended one for photographer ?
Opening Raw file in Lightroom and then editing it in Photoshop in Tiff 16 bits ProPhoto, is it not the best quality way to work a photo ?
There is something i don't understand here...
How can this workflow be so recommended on Adobe website and all others forums, when such an issue exist ?
Thank you very much Noel

c.pfaffenbichler Oct 9, 2012 8:42 AM (in response to Naninou)Are you sure Adobe recommends ProPhoto RGB?

8. Re: Banding in Ps CS6 13.0.1 but not in Lr 4.2 !
Noel Carboni Oct 9, 2012 8:51 AM (in response to Naninou)Well, to be fair for grayscale work pretty much any profile will do, as all can handle the entire range from pure white to pure black.
But that said, I agree, it seems a more serious issue than you might guess given its lack of attention.
Note that the default profile for raw conversions (in Camera Raw) is Adobe RGB 1998, not ProPhoto RGB.

9. Re: Banding in Ps CS6 13.0.1 but not in Lr 4.2 !
Naninou Oct 9, 2012 8:55 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)In this workflow, yes, i am pretty sure, isn't it ?
Since the develop module in Lightroom works in a ProPhoto RGB color space like (Melissa)...
In Lr, you cannot choose your color space.
When you export to Photoshop, i read in all books, forums and tutorials that this is the best way for quality.
Are you agree with me ?
