c.pfaffenbichler Oct 16, 2012 8:45 AM (in response to The Real Thorzdad)Is there a way to generate simple outlines of the object and export those outlines as paths to Illustrator?
You could render Wireframe or Line Illustration etc., but that is probably far from what you have in mind and the result are not Paths.

No. That's not even easily possible in most 3D programs. Simply render your image, use Auto Trace/ the trace tool in AI

The Real Thorzdad Oct 17, 2012 3:25 PM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)Sorry to be so dense...Is that Properties panel from CS6? I'm in CS5, and I, for the life of me, cannot find a Properties panel for 3D. The closest I can find is the 3D Render Settings panel and the general 3D panel.

SG... Oct 17, 2012 3:37 PM (in response to The Real Thorzdad)Hi,
That is the CS6 version. In CS5, you'll want to go to 3D> Render Settings... and then turn off the Face Style options and turn on the Edge Style options. You can adjust the Crease Threshold to remove interior lines.
Once you have the outline that you want, duplicate that 3D layer and then rasterize it. Now select all the pixels and create a path from the selection. You can then bring that path into AI for for further editing.

steve
