Mylenium Aug 14, 2012 12:29 AM (in response to Neeleshss@yahoo.com)And for what program? where did you obtain it from? On what system are you running? You need to be much more specific.

2. Re: That serial number is invalid even serial number is genuine
K8Lynne Oct 16, 2012 2:22 PM (in response to Neeleshss@yahoo.com)I'm having a problem installing an upgrade for PageMaker (7.0.1 > 7.0.2). I get a "verification error: number I've entered is invalid". However, my old serial number is registered with Adobe. Is there a trick to installing this upgrade? ANY help will be hugely appreciated!
I had assumed that my 7.0.1 would not work on my brand new Windows 7 64-bit system, but I didn't try first to see if it would, which it does. But in trying to make things easier for me, my husband rushed ahead and purchased the upgrade after verifying with someone at Adobe that the upgrade would work on my new system. Since he made the investment, I'd like to install the upgrade.
Can anyone help with this?

Jeff A Wright Oct 16, 2012 2:45 PM (in response to K8Lynne)K8Lynne have you tried removing Pagemaker and then starting with installing the Pagemaker 7.0.2 update? It should ask for your qualifying serial number during the installation process.
Please also be aware that the last Windows operating system Pagemaker was tested with was Windows 2000. You may also want to review our FAQ for Adobe Pagemaker Users at http://www.adobe.com/products/pagemaker/pdfs/pm_up_faq.pdf.

K8Lynne Oct 16, 2012 4:03 PM (in response to Jeff A Wright)Thank you, Jeff! I'll try that! And I'll come back to post a report as to whether it worked.
Re: last tested OS being W2K — I realize that Windows is not the most stable OS, but it's what I've got to work with for now. My husband is a total Linux user and is always trying to convert me, but i keep resisting. It's so easy to stick with what you know...plus it came installed on my new Lenovo system. Same goes as a reason for continuing to use PM. I began in the mid-80s with version 3.0 and have been using it exclusively ever since. I'm not doing layout professionally anymore, but I use PM for my hobbies: genealogy, accruing vintage sewing and knitting patterns, as well as collecting tons of inspiration/information in those two fields. I use PM as a word processor too for my online store in which I'm selling off my lifetime collections and inherited stuff.
Will get back later this evening...post presidential debate!

5. Re: That serial number is invalid even serial number is genuine
K8Lynne Oct 16, 2012 8:32 PM (in response to Jeff A Wright)Well, I uninstalled 7.0.1, warm-booted my system, and attempted to install 7.0.2 using first the serial number from my older version (as this is actually what it asks for). I also tried using the serial number for the upgrade—both times with and without spaces between between the groups of four numbers—and I still am getting the same error message.
So, thank you for your suggestion, but it didn't work!
What do you think?

6. Re: That serial number is invalid even serial number is genuine
Jeff A Wright Oct 17, 2012 7:35 AM (in response to K8Lynne)K8Lynne are you able to register the 7.0.2 serial number under your Adobe Account? Also did you purchase the Pagemaker 7.0.2 upgrade from Adobe or a different source?

K8Lynne Oct 17, 2012 1:50 PM (in response to Jeff A Wright)Jeff,
I just registered my copy of the upgrade online—thank you for your prompt to do so! We purchased it online at Adobe.com. I'll try again to install the upgrade (with my previous version still NOT installed). I'll be back...

Jeff A Wright Oct 17, 2012 1:53 PM (in response to K8Lynne)Ok that would indicate that the serial number is truly valid. I have gone ahead and moved this discussion over the Adobe Pagemaker forum. The users in this forum may have some experience getting Pagemaker 7.0.2 to install successfully in Windows 7.

9. Re: That serial number is invalid even serial number is genuine
BobLevine Oct 17, 2012 2:06 PM (in response to Jeff A Wright)There are already plenty of discussions about PM and Windows 7.
It's unsupported and nothing short of a crapshoot. If anyone wants to continue using PM they should use an equally archaic computer.
And FWIW, 7.01 and 7.02 are identical. If you actually paid for 7.0.2 hoping you were getting something new you should get your money back pronto.

The update from PM7.0.1 to PM7.0.1a is here - http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=34&platform=Windows
IIRC, the update to PM7.0.1a was to ensure PM7 worker correctly with Distiller 6.
The update is free and does not require a licence number for installation only that a valid copy of PM7.0.1 is present on your computer.
(Note the date of the update: 2004.)
It's time to move on to InDesign…

BobLevine Oct 18, 2012 4:39 AM (in response to BigJohnD)Distiller 5 IIRC which is also not at all supported under Win 7.

K8Lynne Oct 18, 2012 7:03 PM (in response to BigJohnD)I'd love to switch to InDesign. But I don't have the luxury of available funds to use to make that switch. Not complaining—just trying to work with what I've got!

BobLevine Feb 21, 2013 8:48 AM (in response to K8Lynne)You have unfortunately made the common mistake of buying a new computer without regard to the software that will run on. I'm afraid that troubleshooting something that is totally unsupported is more or less a waste of time.
If you're that strapped for cash you might want to look into Creative Cloud: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud.html

BobLevine Oct 19, 2012 5:23 AM (in response to BobLevine)If you don't mind leaving the Adobe world you can check out scribus (open source and free) or Serif Plus (about $99). Both are far superior to PM and both run fine on Windows 7.

garththom3942 Jul 8, 2013 8:34 AM (in response to Jeff A Wright)Having the same issue with serial number in page maker installation. I've registered my product with the installation but when installing from my CD, it's asking for the serial number and saying it's invalid. What's happening?

18. Re: That serial number is invalid even serial number is genuine
K8Lynne Jul 8, 2013 2:14 PM (in response to garththom3942)Thought I'd reply to say that I ultimately purchased PagePlus, and I must say that it is a dream to use! It's intuitive, robust and, in my opinion, far easier to use and with many thoughtful and time-saving improvements over PM. Now I'm not saying it's better than, or even as good as InDesign (which I have absolutely no experience with), but for my budget and intended use it's the bomb, and I'm having a blast using it. I highly recommend it to anyone. An abbreviated version is free to download and try. And even though you could just keep using the free version if you wanted to, the full-blown version is amazingly inexpensive. JSYK, I'm using is Windows 7 on an Intel I5-2320, 64-bit computer. I've been using PP for about nine months with no problems.
