1. Re: Ray-traced 3D text extrusion
Dave LaRonde Oct 25, 2012 3:44 PM (in response to Jack Banatoni)You're not missing anything, it's just that it takes AE a year and a day to do ray tracing. This is one of those rare occasions when having a hot Nvidia card can help in AE. You should look at the list of the ones approved for use in AE.
No card will make AE speedy with ray tracing, but the right one will prevent AE from rendering agonizingly slowly.

Jack Banatoni Oct 25, 2012 4:23 PM (in response to Dave LaRonde)As it turns out, there actually were a few things I needed to check! Maybe this can help you, too, Dave. I saw a huge boost in rendering speed and I can actually work at this speed.
First, make sure Fast Preview is set to Fast Draft.
Then, turn on Hardware Accelerate Composition/Layer/Panels:
Select Edit, Then Preference, Then Display, Check the box next to Hardware Accelerate Composition, Then click OK
Found the info on this site:

Now if only I could figure out how to apply a texture to the 3D text...

Nothing to figure out because it can't be done.
