1. Re: Importing m2ts files to CS4
JSS1138 Oct 22, 2012 10:08 AM (in response to James A Townsend)Try again without using the Sony software to copy the media to the hard drive. Just use Windows Explorer.

James A Townsend Oct 22, 2012 10:13 AM (in response to JSS1138)HI Jim Simon
The camera was on hire and now gone back so this option is out.
Any other suggestions?

Ann Bens Oct 22, 2012 2:54 PM (in response to James A Townsend)What type of audio did you use to record.
If its LPCM, CS4 does not support this, hence the noise.

James A Townsend Oct 22, 2012 3:30 PM (in response to Ann Bens)Many thanks.
Ah, that explains it, it was in LPCM I believe.
So it looks like a conversion job before importing - any suggestions on software? Free would be good.

5. Re: Importing m2ts files to CS4
Bill Hunt Oct 24, 2012 6:40 PM (in response to James A Townsend)For LPCM to PCM, I use Adobe Audition, but that might not be a "free" option for you, unless you have that, in your suite.
For free (at least on the PC), Audacity should do just fine.
Good luck,
Hunt

Dude, LPCM and PCM are the same thing. Much like 29.97 and 30i mean the same thing.

Bill Hunt Oct 25, 2012 10:19 AM (in response to JSS1138)Hello Jim,
You might have forgotten about this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3218408#3218408
Perhaps that will possibly explain the issue that the OP is having?

9. Re: Importing m2ts files to CS4
James A Townsend Oct 26, 2012 2:42 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Happy to report that the issue is now resolved. I used an old version of Nero that I had on another PC to convert the m2ts files to mpg and all is well. I think the best solution will be to upgrade to the CS6 software but that will have to wait 'til payday.
Thanks all for the help and suggestions, there's a lot to be learned on this forum.
Cheers

It may. My point here was that LPCM and PCM are for these purposes the same thing. Audition may well fix the header info, but before and after, the audio is still LPCM and it's somewhat misinformation to suggest there is a difference.
Two slight different acronyms that here mean exactly the same thing. Just like 30i and 29.97i.

11. Re: Importing m2ts files to CS4
Bill Hunt Oct 26, 2012 8:52 AM (in response to James A Townsend)Good news.
Don't want to sound like an Adobe salesman, but do consider the upgrade to CS 6. Think that you will like it.
"What will it take to get you into PrPro CS 6 today... ?"
Good luck,

12. Re: Importing m2ts files to CS4
Bill Hunt Oct 26, 2012 8:54 AM (in response to JSS1138)Jim,
Maybe I am wrong here, but it seems that you are ignoring the issue with "raw" LPCM in MTS files.
Perhaps moot, as the OP has solved their issue.

13. Re: Importing m2ts files to CS4
JSS1138 Oct 26, 2012 4:36 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)You're right, I am kind of 'ignoring' that issue. The issue I'm taking up here is more one of semantics. Your post 5 suggested there is a difference between LPCM and PCM. While it's certainly true that not all PCM audio has to be Linear, it is also true that in most cases, it is. Audition writes LPCM. All DV and CD use LPCM. Blu-ray uses LPCM. I can't think of a single common scenario where PCM is used in any configuration other than Linear. The way you phrased your post made it sound like PCM is somehow different than LPCM, and in this case, that's simply not true.

14. Re: Importing m2ts files to CS4
Bill Hunt Oct 26, 2012 7:20 PM (in response to JSS1138)Fine. You can argue semantics until the end of time. What I was referencing was differences, and problems.
Good luck,
Hunt
