    Updating apps with AAM

    Peter Villevoye CommunityMVP

Keeping track of updates or upgrades is becoming a bit difficult.

The notification through the web-frontend at https://creative.adobe.com/apps (the banner on top) is just a promotional sign of new stuff. Even if you have downloaded the latest stuff, it just keeps showing that same caroussel of information. Informative indeed, but practically not helpfull.

The Adobe Application Manager is a 'face-less' application, with no icon in any obvious Applications folder, and several confusing signs and traces of its own versions and whereabouts while active. The updating process itself is even a command-less feature, only to be initiated by a running CS6/CC application (which very often has to be closed again).

Sometimes a warning pops up in my menubar, mostly about old and very old Acrobat versions I still retain on my Mac.

My hope is that the announced and by now long-awaited desktop application will take care of the Creative Cloud's apps, services, and business. Is that utility and such a feature to be expected, soon ?

Currently the easiest way to get product updates (beyond the "a warning pops up in my menubar") is just to launch the application you want to use and it will let you know if there are updates.

You can manually check from the application menu Help > Updates. This will let you know about updates in other products. So for example if you are in Photoshop and do Help > Updates you will see InDesign has an update.

Two applications are outside this cross-application Help > Updates check: Lightroom and Muse. But both of these applications will let you know they have updates when you launch them.

We are also adding an auto update mechanism for Adobe Application Manager.

This will notify you of updates to Adobe Application Manger without requiring you to launch it manually.
