1. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
SgtShellback Oct 30, 2012 11:19 AM (in response to tara330)Yes! I'd like to second this request. It would really open up a lot of possibilites for my team as well. We've been trying to find workarounds (unsuccessfully) to disable swiping.

2. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
Smoreplz Oct 30, 2012 11:31 AM (in response to tara330)I also agree with tara330 about disabling h/v swiping. I believe that having the options of disabling or enabling on certain pages would help the design process a lot! I've also been trying to find work arounds, but not always having consistent results.

Jason Souther Oct 31, 2012 1:36 PM (in response to tara330)I agree with tara330 to disable horizontal/vertical swipe. Hopefullly Adobe will add this ability in future sprint releases.

EMP Studios Nov 16, 2012 12:25 PM (in response to tara330)Amen. DPS should be thinking way beyond magazines. Some of us don't need to transition from legacy workflows of print.

stinajonsson Nov 19, 2012 9:28 AM (in response to tara330)I wholeheartedly agree with tara330.

arubino1974 Nov 20, 2012 12:45 PM (in response to tara330)I Agree!!! And please give us the option to disable the navigation menu also!!! I am using the dps to build more app experiences than magazines.

7. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
Moodring Nov 26, 2012 9:21 AM (in response to tara330)Yes, DPS could be a great tool for creating interactive experiences apart from those we've come to associate with the digital magazine model. While there are workarounds for disabling the overlay and swiping, they are not foolproof. And the ability to define an InDesign layer (or layers) as non-scrolling would be very helpful, too. You could create your own custom navigation and UI overlays this way

8. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
hardtofindscreename Jan 9, 2013 1:59 AM (in response to tara330)Yes we need this, same way as we need to disable top menu show-off... Too bad I need it now, I will have to make my job with another solution that allows this customisation.

jkuhns5 Feb 27, 2013 8:42 AM (in response to tara330)Same Here, need this, want this. sometimes it's too confusing for some of the more technically inhibited users I have.

10. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
shaunweg Apr 25, 2013 10:43 AM (in response to tara330)Yes, please. I too would like to be able to limit swiping to focus on a built in navigation system.

Daydream Education Jul 30, 2013 5:16 AM (in response to tara330)Yes we would like this feature also.

12. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
JDnm Sep 4, 2013 6:26 AM (in response to tara330)Yes, it is essential now. It is limiting the amount of non-magazine apps I can properly produce, which means I am looking elsewhere for different solutions.

13. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
Bob Levine Sep 4, 2013 6:30 AM (in response to JDnm)Just be aware that the InDesign based solutions out there are designed for publishers, not developers. If you want a real app, you're going to need to look elsewhere.
Let us know what you find. I'd be curious to here about it.

14. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
JDnm Sep 4, 2013 6:35 AM (in response to Bob Levine)That's true, but I have found some clients are confused by the built-in page swipe for magazine style apps, even with very simple and clean UI. I see it as essential that this functionality can be controlled by the designer/developer.

15. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
Bob Levine Sep 4, 2013 6:39 AM (in response to JDnm)It may or may not be on Adobe's roadmap but I can tell you that I think
there are a whole host of things way more important to the majority of
users. I'm not saying it's not legitimate, just trying to control
expectations.
Official feature requests should be made here:

hardtofindscreename Sep 4, 2013 6:42 AM (in response to JDnm)I had to move my projects to the Aquafadas solution, then you'll have the control over what you want on the screen for the reader, or no.
-
17. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
JDnm Sep 4, 2013 6:43 AM (in response to Bob Levine)We'll agree to disagree. It is an absolutely fundamental feature of DPS apps, which means it automatically influences every single design that uses it. I'd say such fundamentals are very important.
-
18. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
Bob Levine Sep 4, 2013 7:01 AM (in response to JDnm)I'm not arguing against it. The more flexibility the better.
File an official feature request and make a good case for it. That goes
for anyone else that needs it.

19. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
Bjorn Normann Sep 6, 2013 2:06 PM (in response to tara330)Totally with Tara on this - and a considerable portion of DPS designers it seems. I was very sceptical when I heard about the possibility of designing apps with InDesign, but I was actually surprised by it's posibilities. This has great potential, but the e-publish style viewer is a big disadvantage for those wanting to take things a little further - customization or additional viewers to choose from should really be an option for this to hold some weight as a platform for designing apps.

20. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
hooplife Sep 25, 2013 1:52 PM (in response to Bjorn Normann)Agree. Would be great if we could disable the swiping between articles...official request has been made.

21. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
Van Helvoirt Jan 28, 2014 1:02 PM (in response to tara330)Yes, being able to turn of page navigation completely would be very usefull. This makes it possible to build your own navigation inside the page and prevent users from accedently moving to the next article by swiping.

DMD-Ryan Apr 7, 2014 10:47 AM (in response to tara330)Yes I would like this as well. Very much so!

24. Re: Ability to disable horizontal/vertical swiping
jamie.dunmore Sep 1, 2014 10:29 AM (in response to tara330)DPS has been crying out for the ability to disable swiping since day one in my opinion. The argument that the feature is 'for publishing apps' doesn't make sense because it is just digitally replicating a limitation (linear progress) that print has to live with. Also, publishing exists in guises other than print magazines. DPS shouldn't build in limitations like this just because print magazines have to deal with them.
