Setting Sony ereader

I am having dificulty getting my Sony Ereader connected to Adobe and to my computer.  I have tried to reset all passwords to ensure they match and done a soft and hard reset on my reader but I still get a "unable to authorise device  Error: _AUTH_USER_ALREADY _REGISTERED" error message.  Any suggestions as to how to rectify this?
