A crap lens will make him, look worse.

Christian Jolly Oct 18, 2012 5:56 AM (in response to ksemple)Must be said...a good film can be made with even just a smart phone. Story is always most important.
Once you get to the nitty-gritty of gear, good glass is more important. Again, if you outfitted a smartphone with excellent glass, it would probably work out better for you in some ways than to buy the best camera body possible and then outfit it with a plastic lens.
Shorter answer...it is difficult to manufacture a lens. Period. Even harder to make it perfect. Ask NASA. Perfect glass delivers best results. Buy the best lens you can afford, and get the best camera body you can with the leftover money.

El_Plates Nov 4, 2012 8:30 PM (in response to ksemple)Canon and Nikon have cheap prime lenses that perform beautifully on full frame cameras. No need for expensive lenses if you've got the right camera body, and choose lenses carefully.
