    mikeobe Community Member

When I attempt to publish to facebook I get the message: Lightroom is unable to create temporary files on the Volume named "Local Disk (C:)? OS is Win 7, 64 bit! 1 Terebyte disk with over 700 gigs free!

Sounds like a permissions issue somewhere but I'll defer to a Windows user.

Has anyone helped you with this problem?  I get the same message when trying to publish to Flickr and haven't figure it out yet.  Any help is appreciated.

Forgive me if you have tried this basic approach already - I do not publish to Facebook, hence have not encountered the same problem:

I would go in Explorer to the exact volume as indicated in the error message, right-click and choose properties, then the tab for permissions (sorry I lack the English terms as my Win7 is in German) and change that with advanced permission to anybody-full access.

                Just in case.

Because it looks like LR is suggesting a volume for this Facebook publishing service which is normally locked by vanilla win7-set-up.

Alternatively the Facebook publishing service should use a temp-volume which is normally permitted, but there is no open access within LR to specify that.

Could be a bad choice on the definition of the publishing service - the preconfigured Flickr-pulishing service in LR  has no such problems.

I have not yet searched if this has been reported as a bug.

I finally got it to work, but, think it was mainly a Facebook thing, didn't have it set up correctly! I installed, Uninstalled, installed, etc! Even installed the jf Facebook thingy, it's much more sophisticated than the one that comes with LR!

Once you mess up the settings it seems the only way is to start all over again? Be very careful and pay close attention to the directions! May need to read them over a time or two, or it could just be me, I'm kinda slooow!

Good luck to you, hope this helps? OH, I did go thru the Windows Permission thing and that didn't help with my situation, maybe yours?

                    Cornelia,

Thank you for the info.  My husband is better at the os set ups and

permissions so I'll try to get him to try this and will let you know what

                    happens.

                    Thank you again,

                    Dottie

                      Cornelia,

I just wanted to let you know how I fixed the problem with publishing

directly to Flickr.com.  Instead of right clicing on Exporer, I right

clicked on the Lightroom icon and went to Properties.  I then changed the

options to Run As Administrator, which gave it permissions to write to the

                      drive.  It now works.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi...Mine is fixed by right-clicking on the Lightroom icon.  In Properties,

I set the program to run as "administrator", giving it permisisions to

write the files to the disk.  Once that was done, it uploaded to Flickr

with no problems.  Of course, I only tested 1 photo.  I've heard it's

                        REALLY slow.

Running an application like Lightroom as Administrator is ill-advised because you are now allowing Lightroom and all of its plugins (3rd party or otherwise) to do *anything* to your system, whether you know it or not. The broken exporting and writing to temporary files just started happening recently.  It could be something to do with the latest Windows update, or a bug in Lightroom that Adobe now has to fix because of a change to the OS.

Changing the permissions on the folder where temp files are written is another option (as another poster suggested).

What I did, however, was download Jeffrey Friedl's  "JF Flickr" plugin, which does work correctly (http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/flickr). It is quite robust. It takes a little work to setup all of your Smart Collections again but he clearly puts effort into maintaining it.  It didn't have the "API error" that the built-in plugin has.

Also what annoys me is that Adobe hasn't caught this yet or said anything about it.  The best I could find was this thread.  Native plugins should never be broken, Adobe!

Thanks for your response. I'm not TOO concerned about the Admin as I have

it set to ask me each time to give permission.  It's kind of a pain since I

have to click YES every time I upload so your suggestion might work

                            better.

Hopefully, the problem will be fixed by Adobe soon.  In the

meantime....I'll try the folder permissions and hope that works.

                            Thanks again,
