Why won't Photoshop PDF's read well on iPads?

    jyeager11 Community Member

At first, I thought it was specifically Safari on iPad that would not display vector data (such as text) from PDF's created with Photoshop CS6.

Then I installed Chrome on my iPad and got the same problem. Displays all the pixel data, but none of the vector (text).

      Is this a known issue?

I am referring to PDF's created via Photoshop CS6's "Save As" at regular unmodified/default settings. The iPad is the most recent iPad 4. The Safari and Chrome versions are the latest as well.

You may need to look into which Plug-in are being used by your iPad browsers for displaying PDF files.  You may want to see if iBook can display these CS6 saved PDF files.  You may need something like dropbox or airshare to share files between PC|Mac and OS systems and the iPad's  iOS system.  You may also be able to find some computer program to convert the PDF to HTML for displaying them in a browser.

Could also be a possible font issue. Are the required fonts on your iPad.

Everything is default settings. So whatever the default is, that's the answer to your questions.

Please note, the PDF file has no problems opening anywhere else, including computers that don't have the font being used. So it's being properly translated.

In fact, if it was a missing font issue, the text would still be displayed, only in a different font. I'm saying NONE of the vector info is being displayed, only the pixel backgrounds.

You wrote that is not what is happening on you iOS system.  You have used two browsers apples and googles and their PDF plugins  and they do not seem to be working like you PC or Mac computers.  The plugin operrate in iOS did you try iBook.  The Web files served up by the Web servers are the same unless there is special HTML code that detect that your on a iOS moble device. If that code exist on the server may serve up something different for your iOS device then it does for you computers.

I do not know how to configure Chrome on an iOS device does not seem to exist. On your PC or Mac in the Crome address bar enter about:plugins you will see that PDF are handled by

If you provide me with a direct link to *any* PDF file on the web, I can tell you if this is specific to my files (so Photoshop would be at fault) or if it's ALL PDF files (the browsers and their plugins would be at fault).
