How to fix breadcrumbs for second level of child projects?

I'm using RoboHelp 9 and merged projects. Breadcrumbs for the first level of child projects work OK, but for the next level the "Home" is repeated.

Eg. First child level: Home > Purchase to Pay

Second child level: Home > Home > Purchase to Pay > Purchase Orders

Breadcrumbs are set up in the master page in each project as shown bolded below. Changing home="Home" to home="" or removing it altogether makes no difference.

WebHelp (primary layout) is used to generate and publish. The breadcrumb option in the Navigation dialog box is unchecked (checking it makes it worse by duplicating the whole breadcrumbs line).

Child projects should all be at one level. A merge within a merge will not work.
