Clarissa_MC Oct 3, 2012 2:13 AM (in response to Clarissa_MC)I also noted that if I have an animation with no overlay on top of it i works fine, but if you have some overlay on top it appens what I describe before

Alec Molloy Oct 3, 2012 11:16 AM (in response to Clarissa_MC)Could you explain what you mean by "having an overlay on top of it"? Do you have something partially covering the animation?

3. Re: edge animations not always start
Neil Enns - Adobe Oct 3, 2012 11:51 AM (in response to Clarissa_MC)Click on the frame containing the .oam file in InDesign and in the Folio Overlays panel make sure you select "auto play" and set the delay to 0.125. It's not intuitive at all, but that should make a difference.

Neil Enns - Adobe Oct 3, 2012 11:52 AM (in response to Neil Enns - Adobe)Also, if you are testing this on a device running iOS 6, several people have reported issues with Edge animations playing back properly. We're looking into it.

5. Re: edge animations not always start
Clarissa_MC Oct 4, 2012 1:39 AM (in response to Neil Enns - Adobe)Many thanks for all your replies.
We tried ti insert the .oam file with autoplay and 0,121 but it still doesn't work.
We tried on iOS6 but the problem is the same.
It works only on iOS5...
@Alec Molloy: we have something that covers the animation: an object state with a zoomable pic in it, but if we delete every overlay the animation works on iOS6.
Let us know if it will be fixed soon!
Many thanks!!!

Automator21 Oct 22, 2012 1:16 PM (in response to Neil Enns - Adobe)Hi all,
I've also been having issues playing simple animations from Edge... Any update on a fix for this? Thanks.

7. Re: edge animations not always start
Almute Kraus Nov 11, 2012 2:04 AM (in response to Neil Enns - Adobe)More than one month ago - but still no fix.
When do you think that this will be fixed? I can't finish my app because of this bug!
I have a page with a few very small animations which are all set to play automatic.
But on iPad only one of them plays and the others only show the first frame (which is not the poster image). In viewer on Mac it works fine.
Hoping for a fix very soon

8. Re: edge animations not always start
Neil Enns - Adobe Nov 11, 2012 7:22 PM (in response to Almute Kraus)It took us a while to track down the root cause. The Edge team is investigating how best to fix it, but it's not trivial. iOS 6 changed some things.

NauticEd Dec 5, 2012 12:46 PM (in response to Neil Enns - Adobe)I'm experiencing this too - when is the fix coming? I have an app to publish but it is unuseable due to this bug? I have approximately 20 animations - they all stall. Highly frustrating!

Nautical Kiwi Dec 5, 2012 12:56 PM (in response to Neil Enns - Adobe)yup me too - I'm waiting despirately for this. Can you give us all some idea on when. Isn't this a major bug?

18. Re: edge animations not always start
landrvr1 Dec 7, 2012 7:49 AM (in response to Seb Adore)This is a bit of a disaster, isn't it? I've got some jQuery 360deg stuff that works fine. The Edge animations? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Wondering as well what the Edge Team has come up with...

19. Re: edge animations not always start
MartinSanchezVE Dec 9, 2012 4:42 PM (in response to landrvr1)If you have only one animation on a page, it plays OK in an iOS 6 device.
With two or more animations on a page, it wont play any of them.
Right now, the only fix I have found for multiple Edge animations to play on iOS 6 devices is by editing the _EdgePreload.js files and replacing the version of jQuery to version 1.6.3.
However, jQuery 1.6.3 has a reduced feature set as compared to version 1.7.1, which is the one Edge v1.0 uses.
I use Edge for banner advertising on my site, but I use Twitter Bootstrap, which requires jQuery 1.7.1 or newer to power some of its features. So, I can't use jQuery 1.6.3.
I've been waiting for a fix for several weeks, but as 11% on my site traffic comes from iOS devices, I cannot continue to wait.
Sad situation we are all in here. Most Open Source software projects seem to be much more responsive to users' needs than a big entity like Adobe.
Adobe has know this for months. We are not talking about some minor issue that affects just a few. There are millions of iOS6 devices out there.
I'm switching to GIF animations and jQuery slideshows for now.
I really hope this gets fixed soon.

20. Re: edge animations not always start
NauticEd Dec 9, 2012 5:18 PM (in response to MartinSanchezVE)I'm not so lucky to switch - I have 20 animations I have created - they are all on different pages and still don't work. They work fine on browser but stall on ios. THe Adobe team have not answered these notices in weeks. Pretty disappointed.
Hey ADOBE wakey wakey are you there - can you tell us when this critical issue will be fixed - surely it's important. Anyone with more than 1 animation in their DPS app is going to have this problem. It's just not worth them starting a project.

21. Re: edge animations not always start
landrvr1 Dec 9, 2012 6:57 PM (in response to MartinSanchezVE)@Martin, I have many pages with just one Edge animation and none of them play. Did you mean to say that if you have more than one in a single Folio then it will be fine? I haven't tested that but just wanted some clarification.
...
Yes, this really is somewhat disturbing because Edge has been promoted as a tool that can be used with DPS. More disturbing is the blaming of Apple for changing around code in iOS6, then further explanations that it's going to take the Edge team a long time to come up with a fix. Does Adobe not get advanced copies of iOS6 beta for testing purposes? Shouldn't something this blatant have been noticed? It's not like it's a rather obscure bug. This jumps out immediately.
Honestly, I think it's really time for Adobe to take a good hard look at Edge and probably start issuing warnings about possible unstable behaviour due to new iOS updates. If the Edge team / Adobe isn't ready to jump on fixes (and properly review beta iOS releases) then the least that could be done is to offer a risk message.
I've learned a valuable lesson: Don't use Edge. It simply makes no sense to continue using the tool until there's better support. Thankfully I caught this issue just before a major release. The fallout if I had not would have been horrid.

22. Re: edge animations not always start
MartinSanchezVE Dec 11, 2012 1:14 PM (in response to landrvr1)If you view a single Edge animation in Safari in iOS6, it shows up fine. I'm not talking about DPS, but publishing the animation from Edge Animate and displaying it on a web browser.
One animation per page should not have issues playing.
The problem is when you combine several animations in a ingle page. It works OK in desktop browsers, and iOS5 Safari, but not on iOS6.
So, since websites need to display several banner advertising on the same page, Edge Animate definitely cannot be used for that purpose right now, as an important chunk of the site's audience will not see the animations.
I'm really hoping for a quick fix from Adobe.
The tool is very neat and shows a lot of promise.
Figers crossed for a Holyday gift coming from San Jose !!!

25. Re: edge animations not always start
Nautical Kiwi Dec 13, 2012 12:48 PM (in response to Neil Enns - Adobe)The holidays are 7 days away - so I hope it is more than hope. It can't be that hard to give us a date. Why are they being so quiet. If they need a beta tester - I have a DPS doc with about 20 animations in it plus an iBook with about 10 animations all are not working. One way to get it working is that I have one image whereby I set up a zoom in and out. When ever I do that it seems to reset the stall to allow an animation to run. Of course then all the others stall but what ever is running in that zoom function might be a clue.

Jay-KeepOnKeepinOn Dec 18, 2012 7:32 AM (in response to Neil Enns - Adobe)Today's fix/update does not work. Something I'm doing wrong?
I updated Edge, re-published a new .oam file, placed in Indesign, chose auto-play in the overlay panel for placed web content, published to Adobe Content Viewer, and still a white flash before animation sequences begin (on tap).

30. Re: edge animations not always start
Jay-KeepOnKeepinOn Dec 18, 2012 10:19 AM (in response to Jay-KeepOnKeepinOn)* Correction:
With "transparent background" checked, and "autoplay" checked in the Folio Overlays panel, it works.
-
31. Re: edge animations not always start
Almute Kraus Dec 18, 2012 11:51 AM (in response to Jay-KeepOnKeepinOn)I found that there are some problems with the animations when creating articles in PDF format. But I didn't find out when it works and when not.
In PDF in some cases it works – I have an article with 16 animations running best, all at the same time with autostart.
But in the same folio I have many other articles with only 2 of this animations (the same oam files!) which show a white background (background is set to transparent same way as in the first article).
And when I create a folio with JPG format all animations in all articles are working fine.
Does anyone notice this too?
Best
Almute
