2. Re: How do I do a starburst with Illustrator
Wade_Zimmerman Dec 8, 2012 3:03 PM (in response to rowby)You make a straight vertical path and use the wifth to taper it and you use the transform Effect to rotate it you copy and apste a couple of times and use the transform effect to rotate each of the copied art
But before you do that once you have the stroke of the original path adjusted with the width tool then you apply a gradient to the stroke so it goes from white 100% to White 0%
Gice it a inner glow and perhaps a slight blur depending on what you think looks good.
the center you have to make a circle with a blur and a solid white to a transparent white radial gradient fill.
Adjust the transparency of each copy of the transformed stroke
Draw a cicle beyond the edges of the burst and fill it with a radial gradient, select the three paths for the burst and gradient filled circle and make it a clipping path

6. Re: How do I do a starburst with Illustrator
rowby Dec 10, 2012 6:54 AM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)I am having a problem applying a gradient to the stroke. (How's that for a start!)
Even though I have selected 100 percent to 0 percent the stroke seems solid white.
I used the pen tool to create the stroke. CS5
I'll google and youtube it, but any suggestions?
Also for the width tool -- what would be your suggested width for the thinnest end and suggested width for the wide end. At least to start.
This is for print.
Thanks -
7. Re: How do I do a starburst with Illustrator
An Elephant Dec 10, 2012 6:59 AM (in response to rowby)Gradient stroke is only for cs6. Expand strokes and apply gradation instead.
And 'object->compound path->make' expanded strokes so you don't apply gradation on every stroke(try it without making compound path for better understanding).

9. Re: How do I do a starburst with Illustrator
Wade_Zimmerman Dec 10, 2012 7:19 AM (in response to rowby)Effects>Stylize>Outer Glow
Effects>Stylize>Feather
Effects>Blur>Gausian Blur
Explore the Effects Menu and the appearance panel to add fills and to vary the adjustments.
Maybe I will do a video later.

rowby Dec 10, 2012 7:42 AM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)For the Inner glow, I see many choices in the dropdown
Mode: Screen, Overlay etc etc. Also I have a choice of center and edge. Not sure what is the best choice -- at least to start with...
