Hello. Adobe flash player 11.5  installation is failing at 5%. It's an intel iMac running 10.8.2, firefox 17 and safari 6.0.2. i thought mackeeper looked like a good idea, and as i recall a couple of weeks ago i uninstalled silverlight with it. but then lumosity and other sites came up in an html list type of format (no graphics at all) so i uninstalled mackeeper . First time i tried to install flash 11.5 it said it couldn't save it to the desktop and suggested i save it someheree else, but i didn't see an opprtunity to do so. Since then it has been failing at the 5% stage of installation. i read something about silverlight being a problem and ran it's uninstaller suggestion from microsoft's site: drag the plugin to the trash. feel i've unintentionally deleted something crucial through mackeeper, since this machine has been flawless up to this point. thanks for hosting this forum.

ps : do macs really need these kind of "optimizing/ trash deleting" programs or is this just fear mongering hype?

You might want to repair permissions on this drive, as installer hangs can sometimes be attributed to this.  You can also try bringing up a terminal window, then typing:

sudo /usr/sbin/installer -target / -pkg /Volumes/Flash\ Player/Install\ Adobe\ Flash\ Player.app/Contents/Resources/Adobe\ Flash\ Player.pkg

Thanks for responding, Chris. Repair permissions found a lot of things to

fix. there is only one that persists after multiple passes: Java. Any idea

why i should be able to repair this one yet it doesn't stay repaired?

Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”

Permissions differ on “Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin”;

Not sure why Java isn't repairing for you, that does seem odd.

As for the command line, make sure that you've mounted the Flash Player installer .dmg file before running the command line.

Success!

Dave from SuperDuper! the excellent back up program observed that my os

10.8 was damaged. how? unknown. but reinstalling mountain lion from the app

store allowed this flash installation to proceed.

I think It would be helpful and save all our time if the installer had a

log, might help to identify issues rather than guessing.

Hope this is helpful to someone.

Excellent.  Flash Player does write to the console, but I've found that the details can be lacking at times.

Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on the Macintosh?
