Why did Encore erase my hard drive!??!

    RFDPiper Community Member

I tried to create a new Encore project.  It told me the file already existed and that to save the project, it had to delete the old one.  Instead, it deleted me ENTIRE hard drive except for the blank Encore project!  Why?  Months of work down the drain!  Any way to get it back?

Retrieving what was deleted? Use any such method unrelated to Encore. Do nothing to add files until you do.

Edit: Are you sure it warned you about a file? If you did not already have that encore project created, it warned you about a folder that was already in existence, that you would delete that folder and its contents, and that the action could to be undone.

I don't see how it would delete the whole drive, but if contents were in a single root folder, and that was the folder, it could.

          Very odd in nay event.

Sorry, yes, it warned me about a folder that was already in existance.  So why would there even be an option to erase an entire folder?  You'd think Adobe would be capable of creating a program that doesn't need to delete all of your renders to create a new project.  What a stupid side effect.

I assume it is the sonic authorcore that drives the folder structure, and yes, I'd like to see better options for reusing previous projects.

Two lessons given the current realities, are:

              a) never save things inside the Encore project structure, and

              b) always create a new Encore project with a new name. You can then delete what you wish. It is often unwise to reuse Encore transcodes, but I like to have the choice. More often, I want the menus I modified.
