Initialisation failed after downloading latest Flash Player.

The installation .exe yields the message "initialisation failed" (German: Initialisierung fehlgeschlagen). We are working with Firefox 17.0.1 under Windows XP. The downloaded .exe has some 950 kByte. The Website talks about 15.6 MByte. What can we do?
