I can't get Adobe Digital Editions to work. I haven't been able to download the 'Getting Started' on my computer,

so I can't get started. Every time I click anywhere on ADE, it says it has encountered a problem, and needs to

close....and it does.  What should I do?

You shouldn't need the 'Getting Started'.

It isn't very helpful that Adobe provide 'Getting Started' in epub format;

as you won't be able to read it until you have got started.

But if ADE is encountering a problem there is clearly something wrong.

Can you tell us which operating system you are running on, please?

for Vista

If you are installing Adobe Digital Editions on Windows Vista please see Installing Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 in Windows Vista - http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/installing-digital-editions -20-windows.html for a workaround to allow the installation.

for XP

~~~
A lot of people have been having issues on XP with ADE2.0 (as well as several other problems with it as well).
I suggest installing the older version 1.7.2  which seems more reliable.
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
Thanks for getting back to me about ADE 1.7.2. My operating system is Windows XP Home Edition 2002.
I've been trying my best to get to a place to download the ADE 1.7.2., but I can't seem to find it. The only
place I can find to get to it is at the Tucow site. Is that a safe website to use? If not, how do I get to it on
Adobe?
Sorry, I see I corrupted the result of a copy and paste.
Try the Adobe site at http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
or very directly for Windows at http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions/_jcr_content/main-pars/proc...
(Mac pointers on that initial page).
I loaded from the tucows site (before they restored the old download to the Adobe site) and haven't seen any signs of problems,
but I would go for the Adobe one now it is there.
