JSS1138 Jan 5, 2013 9:44 AM (in response to HK223)Avid and Smoke are probably the two biggest players in Hollywood. PP has started to make inroads, though.
I've no idea what kind of hardware is typical.
If I remember my "behind the scenes" correctly, movies like Toy Story can take days to render out just a single scene lasting less than a minute.

John T Smith Jan 5, 2013 12:32 PM (in response to HK223)I did not save a link, since even the IDEA was way outside my budget, but sometime in the past year or so there was a similar discussion... and I think Harm posted a program name and mentioned that it was "about" $20,000 just for the software... and I can't remember the hardware required
That is, of course, not counting the custom hardware and software that James Cameron and his team designed and built (had built?) to create the movie Avatar

Bill Hunt Jan 5, 2013 5:48 PM (in response to HK223)Hollywood uses many different programs. In some cases, Premiere, but also AVID, or FCP (before the X version). Also, when you mention Pixar productions, there are some special programs, and vast "render farms," available.
It just depends on what you reference.
