How to change the display?

I bought an ebook and succesfully read the faqs to insert it into my library. However I find the stark black text on white background hurts my eyes. In many programs I am able to change the background colour to something less painful, such as a pale ecru. But I couldn't find any personalisation options in ADE, and the DRM prevents me from using my ebook in other programs. Is there any option in which I can change the background colour away from the harsh, awful #ffffff? (Even this site has a slightly darker background than white, coming in at a nice #e7e7e7. The text entry box, while pale, is a #f8fafd. It makes it easier to use it when it isn't necessary to look away from the screen).

There should be an answer from within ADE, but meanwhile a simple screen dimmer program could help a bit

Both can change brightness but not colour.

There is also f.lux which changes automatically by time ~ but not by application.
