strange symbol behavior

I have a symbol with an animation of scissors cutting a straw. Works perfectly in the symbol made of 4 png transparent files.

I have autoplay set to false. A label 'start' at the beginning of the symbol timeline.

When on the stage, a next button goes to a label on the main timeline where the following code is inserted: sym.getSymbol("cutAni").play('start');

Well, strangely, the straw action plays (the one straw becomes 2 pieces) while the scissors action (the movement of the blade) does not.

Any idea what the problem could be?

Your code looks right based on the information you stated...and the scissors and straw graphics are all in the same symbol?

If you check Autoplay, does the symbol play correctly?

The scissors do not play, but the straws play even when autoplay is checked. However the scissors do play when I play the animation in design mode from inside the symbol. All the png files are inside the symbol cutAni. I am mystified - nothing like that has ever happened to me before and I have several hundreds small animations done to this day.

Joe,
I redid the animation in a new document and it works fine. I exported it and then imported it in the previous composition.
So, as far as my work, I am fine and this is no hurry, but it would still be nice to know why the first one did not work.

Hi Marie,

I got your file, and imported the symbol into a new composition in EA 1.0.1 - and works correctly, whether autoplay is on and it autoplays in the browser, or it's off and playback is triggered by a button.

So I'm not sure what the problem may have been...

Strange! Oh well, thanks for checking it. We'll never know since I made a new symbol and deleted the original one in the composition.

Update: I posted too soon!

Actually, I can reproduce it in Firefox 17. But it does not repro in webkit-enable browsers (Chrome & Safari 6), nor in Opera. I'll take a closer look.

Well actually my default browser is FF so I had not checked the other browsers yet. So I guess something is going on. Do you want me to post the second symbol?
