peachydragon Jan 27, 2013 11:18 AM (in response to hurricaneheatherinVictori)It sounds like you have too much green light on the actor. Probably bounce light?
Red Giant Primatte doesnt do this, but it is actually an awesome feature of keylight when wanted. Post a screen grab?

Dave Merchant Jan 27, 2013 11:47 AM (in response to hurricaneheatherinVictori)Ultra Key is certainly still in Premiere Pro CS6, and it works the same way. Make sure in your Effects panel that the "32" and "YUV" buttons aren't depressed, as they will filter out the UK effect from the tree.
Here are some more tutorials on keying in CS6 that describe the UK tool in more detail:
http://www.adobepress.com/articles/article.asp?p=1865783
http://library.creativecow.net/articles/devis_andrew/Premiere-Pro-CS6-Basics_98/video-tuto rial uses mattes to handle a more difficult key, which may be useful in your case if the background isn't lit properly.

Bill Hunt Jan 27, 2013 3:52 PM (in response to hurricaneheatherinVictori)Heather,
Yes, please provide a screen-cap of James against the green screen. As mentioned above, it sounds like that shot might have too much green light bouncing onto James, causing only partial Keyfing.
Good luck,
Hunt

12. Re: Green Screen Issue
Steven L. Gotz Jan 27, 2013 7:27 PM (in response to shooternz)Craig, that is a good tutorial but I think it might be aimed a little high. It takes a while to get to the part that the original poster needed to hear. I put a tutorial on my tutorial site that might help.
http://www.stevengotz.com/my-tutorials.html
I used an uneven green screen clip to better help the example. The stage I put the ballerina on is not exactly the one I would have chosen had I an actual choice, but http://www.VideoBlocks.com came to the rescue with the dancer and the stage, so I used what they had.
I have yet to figure out how to link directly to the part of the page I want to show people, so here is the YouTube link.
From what I can see of the original posters YouTube example, the pedestal is probably the main problem.

hurricaneheatherinVictori Jan 28, 2013 6:56 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)I did a screen shot of the issue using Paint on my computer. I am not able to use Adobe Photoshop 9, I am getting some error message that Photoshop 9 has stopped working and then it closes the program. I don’t have Adobe Photoshop 11, I only have Adobe Premiere Elements 11 which was a downloadable version. Anyways I uploaded James to YouTube using a background and also the green screen session with did with him,

Steven L. Gotz Jan 28, 2013 8:20 AM (in response to hurricaneheatherinVictori)Heather,
First of all , you dowenloaded a SD clip instead of an HD clip. So either stretch it or get a new one. Second you cut off part of his head in the video. That isn't critical but could be next time.
Here is what happens when you follow the instructions in my video tutorial. Sorry, but I could not find the same background. No lagoon in mine. Also, I didn't work on getting the lighting to match. That will be up to you.

18. Re: Green Screen Issue
hurricaneheatherinVictori Jan 29, 2013 8:20 AM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)Hi, and thank you so much for all the information and the help you are trying to give me. I am trying to follow the instructions in Steven Gotz instructional video but when I go to change from composite to Alpha channel, the screen that had James in it, the whole screen is now White and he’s no longer there. So I had to change it back to composite to bring him back and had to change my Ultra Key settings again to the ones you listed. I am about to give this up. I was able to find a tutorial on how to upload to YouTube using Premiere Pro CS6 as CS6 does not have a direct share button like Adobe Premiere Elements 9 and/or 11. I was able to upload this video which was not Green Screen but it shows I am able to follow directions because I was able to get it up on YouTube following a video on how to upload using Premiere Pro, here’s the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdMo0xIvd3I&feature=share&list=UUxdGY8nhB7waymVljxwuEsA
I went back to Video Blocks and downloaded a clip that was HD instead of using the one that was SD. I am about to order Adobe PRemiere Pro in a book from amazon.ca because this program is more complex than Adobe Premiere Elements. One other question, am I supposed to drag the ultra key on the background footage or am I supposed to drag it on James? I think I have now done on both. With all your help, I don’t know why this is not working for me. I don’t know if I am able to share the screen shot through email in a screen shot but I am going to try. Ignore the second screen with canoe, I have two monitors. I am DETERMINED to get this.

20. Re: Green Screen Issue
Bill Hunt Jan 29, 2013 8:28 AM (in response to hurricaneheatherinVictori)Heather,
You are correct that PrPro does not have the direct upload (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) function, that PrE does. However, even with that direct connection, there are often issues, such as "extended" subscriptions, where the user has a longer Duration available to them, but PrE was written at a time, when YouTube did not have such extended subscriptions. Other, similar issues exist, as well. The manual, Export, then Import into YouTube is often the recommended workflow, if a Project is not "box-stock," and compliant with the YouTube rules, at the time the program was written. The method that you used in PrPro offers you more control, with but a few extra steps.
Now, good luck with the green screen. Sounds like you are close, and it's likely an adjustment between the tutorials and your operation, that is standing in your way.
Upon viewing the tutorials linked her, I think that Stevens is the better, and is the one that I would concentrate on using to fix things.

21. Re: Green Screen Issue
Steven L. Gotz Jan 29, 2013 8:38 AM (in response to hurricaneheatherinVictori)Drag the Ultra key on to James. You click on the eyedropper next to the little box for Key Color. Then select the color of green just above his right shoulder. At that point, you should see a lot of the other video behind him. Now is the time to clean it up so you switch to the Alpha channel view. Before you select the green, there is no alpha channel.
Please keep in mind that you want the opacity of the clip with James at a full 100%. You do not want it to be partially see though. Only the green should be transparent and to do that you select the green to key it out.
Watch the tutorial again. Stop it as I go through it, do the exact same thing and tell me where exactly the results are not the same.
Try doing this with just James and no background video. Put him on track two but leave track one empty for this test. Is there black behind him with James looking correct. By that I mean he isn't darker because you see black behind him? If he is darker than he is supposed to be, check to make sure his opacity is 100%. Once he looks correct, then put the video behind him by putting it on track one.

shooternz Jan 29, 2013 4:47 PM (in response to hurricaneheatherinVictori)Heather...you need to tweak this key a bit more.

Steven came close but your result is not nearly as good.
Are your settings similar or close to what Steven showed you in his screen grab?

hurricaneheatherinVictori Jan 29, 2013 4:53 PM (in response to shooternz)Well that’s another lesson, but I got it this far and this was a lot of work to figure out. My next project once I can master that is to get Marcel off the couch using Green Screen. I plan to shoot his video using a green screen so I can use a different background and get him off the couch, all my Marcel videos are on the couch. There’s no coaxing him.

hurricaneheatherinVictori Jan 29, 2013 5:06 PM (in response to shooternz)I will try again, considering where I was, this was a major feat. Once I can perfect this, I hope to at least to perfect making music videos. Heck, I just installed Premiere Pro on my computer not even a week ago and I’ve come this far in using it in both editing and now I am learning Green Screen. I did share my YouTube link with a few of my Video Club members considering how much I was struggling. I will get it tweaked, just not today. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN for all your help with using Adobe Premiere Pro and Green Screen. I’ve posted my link on Facebook too, Scott said this about my Marcel Martin Princess video:
by the way I was finally able to figure out the Green Screen and Adobe Premiere Pro and uploading it, here's the link: http://youtu.be/7x2bmc-75vU
Great job.. I knew you'd get it. I also saw The Princess. Such a pretty song

Marcel really liked it too

You HAVE come a long way with the Keying - no doubt.
With the suggestions that Steven has given you, you can get even closer - right at perfection. Stay with it, as you are almost THERE.
Good luck, and hope you can get Marcel "off the couch." Maybe a thumbtack... ?
Hope to see some great work in the future.

hurricaneheatherinVictori Jan 29, 2013 5:17 PM (in response to shooternz)This is the video I want to re shoot using a green screen so that I can get Marcel off the couch. I do need to invest in lighting and I also need how to make the titling single spaced rather than double or 1 and 1/2 whatever it is. I can do it in Adobe Premiere Elements 9 and 11.

hurricaneheatherinVictori Jan 29, 2013 5:29 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)I will revisit and the suggestions Steven made. I just need to relax my mind right now. I have only had Adobe Premiere Pro for a week. I am already editing with it and uploading to YouTube with it; now I have figured out certain aspects of the Green Screen. I will keep at it, I just got to relax my mind then go back to that tutorial of Steven’s. Thank again for all your help and getting me this far. I hope the others can read this response too. One way or another, I will get Marcel off the couch and now I have the tools to do it, if I can’t get him to do it physically. All my Marcel videos are on the couch in his living room.

hurricaneheatherinVictori Jan 30, 2013 6:52 PM (in response to shooternz)I am now trying to use Premiere Pro to burn a DVD of James for our next Video Club Meeting which is also a contest; although, I am not so much interested in the contest but I would like to show my work on DVD. I have been googling “how to burn a DVD on both YouTube and the net, I get close but it’s not working. I even tried from Encore but it’s not working. What easy to burn this from DVD, I realize Premiere Pro is not like Adobe Premiere Elements 9 or 11 which easy to do because there’s a direct link to do so, this program doesn’t have a direct link.
I’ve been following these videos:
http://www.adobe.com/designcenter-archive/video_workshop/?id=vid0257
http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/exporting-dvd-or-blu-ray.html
This last video was actually one of the videos I followed to create my settings, but still I am not able to burn a DVD. Is there an easier way. Thank you for any information you can provide.

38. Re: Green Screen Issue
Bill Hunt Jan 30, 2013 7:25 PM (in response to hurricaneheatherinVictori)OK, first, as of PrPro CS 3, there is NO capabilities to author a DVD-Video from PrPro.
However, the good news is that Adobe Encore, a wonderful, full-feature authoring app. is included with PrPro.
One can get PrPro Projects into Encore several ways. If all works correctly, using Adobe Dynamic Link (ADL) will allow one to Import a PrPro Project directly into Encore.
If that does not work correctly, there are other ways.
Also, Adobe Encore has a very active forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/encore/encore_general with a lot of friendly and helpful people, should you get stuck.
Good luck,

hurricaneheatherinVictori Jan 30, 2013 7:54 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Thanks for your quick reply and I kept playing with it and I finally got a DVD to burn but I didn’t use Encore to do it. I plan to play it at our next club meeting but in mean time before our meeting I may try redoing it following Steven’s YouTube video to see if I can get better. Then I will burn it again. It’s amazing I just got this program a week ago and not only am I editing but I am also burning DVDs; although, I do like the direct link with Adobe Premiere Elements 9 and 11 when it comes to uploading videos to YouTube and burning DVDs to disc.
