2. Re: Duplicate Video Import Issue
JSS1138 Feb 5, 2013 10:22 AM (in response to Shane P)I know PPro is intelligent enough to know when importing assets from another project file that shares the same assets as the project you are importing into, it knows to only import the dependent assets which are not in the project file you are importing into. I have done this countless times and PPro has correctly only imported the assets it needed.
I question that, because I've only ever seen PP import every asset from the project you're importing, meaning you do get two of those assets already in the project. There's no way around this behavior that I'm aware of.

Shane P Feb 5, 2013 10:26 AM (in response to JSS1138)LMFAO....yeah I know, just haven't gotten around to it. I keep hemming and hawing of trying to get a copy of WIn 7 PRO online or 8 Pro. Im' leary that 8 pro will be buggy. I know my Vista system is old but it runs smooth as butter.

4. Re: Duplicate Video Import Issue
Shane P Feb 5, 2013 10:30 AM (in response to JSS1138)I import sequences all of the time and it only brought in the files it needed which is very nice. For project file management there is nothing more annoying that importing a sequence from another project file and having 4 or 5 copies of "Video1" in your project file. I like that PPRo knows if it already had "Video1" in the project and the sequences you are importing also reference "Video1" that is does not import another copy of it.
For some reason these select sequences are not cooperating.

JSS1138 Feb 5, 2013 10:30 AM (in response to Shane P)I've been running the Adobe suite on Win 8 since August. It's a damn stable OS, and generally snapier than Win 7.

6. Re: Duplicate Video Import Issue
JSS1138 Feb 5, 2013 10:36 AM (in response to Shane P)I see the difference. If you import the entire PP project, you get everything, including duplicate media. If you import only a sequence, you get what you need.

Shane P Feb 5, 2013 10:37 AM (in response to JSS1138)So you would advise is 8Pro is a "safe" upgrade? My laptop has Win 7 home and is very snappy. My desktop is the one that has Vista Home. I have been debating for a while now on finally upgrading but again, I know Microsoft typically isn't too trust worthy when releasing new upgrades. I wish I had the extra cash when Win 7 Pro was still on the market, I would have ran that until the next century.
Nice to hear though from a fellow user that Win 8 is a little snappier than 7.

JSS1138 Feb 5, 2013 10:38 AM (in response to Shane P)I'd say definitely upgrade the Vista machine as soon as you can. It's worth it.

9. Re: Duplicate Video Import Issue
Shane P Feb 5, 2013 11:33 AM (in response to JSS1138)I think I have solved my own issue. As stated above when I was trying to import sequences from another sequence it was brining in a dup copy of the same clip in the sequence. I was able to successfully have it not do that.
What I realized was happening is that even though the source footage video file is identical in each project file, when I opened it up the clip in the source monitor I had different IO points set for each version of the clip in each project. PPro I am assuming imported the second copy to preserve the IO points on the second version of the clip that was being imported.
I simply cleared each set of IO points on each reference of the clip in the project file and I was able to import the sequences I wanted without bringing in an additional copy of the source clip. So now I just have one copy of "Video1.avi" in my project file instead of multiple.
Hope this helps someone in the future who may be experiencing a similar issue.

11. Re: Duplicate Video Import Issue
Cyrus Dowlatshahi Feb 11, 2013 7:37 PM (in response to Shane P)This helped me, but:
1. It's a pain to have to clear IN and OUT points when you're in the midst of working and just need to move sequences around and organize timelines between project files.
2. Importing XML necessarily creates duplicate master files. And that sucks.
